In this era, if you want to engage in computer science, you don't need a degree. Unfortunately, the Indian system values degrees as well as relevant skills. All you need is a good computer, an internet connection, and a desire to learn. If you cannot afford four years or a large tuition fee for engineering, consider taking some related courses such as mathematics, statistics, or commerce.
You can learn skills on your own using free and paid online platforms, complete projects related to your skill set, and you'll be employable, possibly better than an engineering graduate.
Practicals (Lab sessions) are regarded as the backbone of engineering courses in other branches (though our colleges give much more importance to theory).
Many prestigious institutes outside of India are focusing on "outcome-based education." That is, simply having the certificate and having no idea what you did in college, or simply studying for the sake of passing the exam, isn't a big deal. You must be an authority in your field.
You don't start the CSE syllabus right away in the first year. Math, electronics core topics, English, and other subjects are common. You should read the foreign writers suggested for applied math and sciences. Foreign books usually go into great detail about a topic and are of far higher quality than local publications. I would advise you to use them for your preparation.
Here are some of the recommended books.
For chemistry cycle-
For Physics Cycle-
For CPP, your college will help you out with the notes. These are the authors that you can refer to during your 1st year. There is no need to refer to any books for EVS.
BITS Pilani CS is better than IIT Mumbai Chemical Engineering in terms of placements. Top MNCs such as Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, etc. visit the campus placements. The recent highlights of BITS Pilani placements show the average package of CSE to be around INR 17-20 LPA. The highest CTC for CSE is around INR 44 LPA.
BITS Pilani offers an enviable campus experience with a lot of academic freedom.
You will be placed from the BIT Mesra (main) campus after your final semester. As most of the placements happen at Mesra campus, you will get the opportunity to showcase your skills in front of big-shot brands like Amazon, Flipkart, Directi, etc. For the 2023 placements from the Jaipur campus, as per now, the highest package for B.Tech stands at INR 51 LPA and the median package stands at INR 8.2 LPA. A total of 53% B.Tech students from the Jaipur campus have been placed.
Moreover, your degree will have the BIT Mesra tag, your campus name (Jaipur Campus) will not be mentioned in your degree ( this is regardless of whichever campus you belong to). As BIT Mesra is a brand in itself, you will easily grab a good job after your degree. However, you should consult the alumni from the Jaipur campus to know about the teaching faculty for CSE over there. This is because faculty matters as much.
BIT Jaipur campus is a good place to pursue your B.Tech CSE in terms of placements. You should talk to the seniors and alumni of the college to find out about the faculty and overall environment over there.
It is clear how so many students from IIT Gandhinagar have answered your question before me. And this is what makes these answers slightly biased. But I would try on my part, to provide you with authentic information on IIT Gandhinagar- without coming off as biased.
STEP 1: DECIDE YOUR BRANCH
STEP 2: BITS vs IIT
Therefore, if the USA is on your bucket list, go for IIT. Grabbing a foreign internship at IIT Gandhinagar is easier. But then if you simply want to stay in India and study, BITS Goa and IIT Gandhinagar stand equal as a brand.
In case you have second thoughts on learning MS applications and shifting abroad, check the next step.
STEP 3: TAKE IT EASY
One of my friends had an option to choose between a certain branch that held his interest among IIT Gandhinagar for Electrical Engineering or the AIEEE colleges. It even included underrated IITs like metallurgy, aeronautical, etc. But he was certain about Electrical. Eventually, the choices came down to NIT Warangal and IIT Gandhinagar. He then thought that NIT Warangal was better than BITS Goa despite having BITS Goa for Electrical. And he eventually went for IIT Gandhinagar considering its popularity.
He was a 2013 pass-out and even after this, he is still not sure if he had made the right decision. It is fine if you're unable to make a decision. But once you decide, make sure to excel at it.
BITS Pilani campus is way better than Goa or Hyderabad campus unless you have a specific locational preference. So that leaves you with 2 options; BITS Pilani and IIT Indore.
So unless you have any financial issues, BITS Pilani is the best choice unless you are adamant about the IIT tag.
Both the colleges, NIT Bhopal and NIT Durgapur are excellent choices for CSE. Here is a one-to-one analysis of the same
Ranking: MANIT Bhopal's Overall ranking by NIRF is 101 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 while that of NIT Durgapur is 90 out of 200.
Coding Culture: The number of GSOC selections is high at NIT Durgapur so it has a great coding culture in comparison to NIT Bhopal.

NIT Durgapur has a higher average package than NIT Bhopal. Considering all factors like ranking, coding culture, and placements, NIT Durgapur is a better choice than NIT Bhopal.
The CS program offered by Don Bosco Institute of Technology is quite good. In order to get admission in DBIT Bangalore, the student should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/12th standard or equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks. Admissions are then given on the basis of the JEE Mains/ COMEDK rank. There are 180 seats for CSE. The 1st year course fee for CSE is INR 125,000. The total fees include library fees and development fees.
The CSE course is of 4 years and each semester includes three internals and one external. The marking scheme is based on Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). The labs are well equipped with necessary instruments.
The college provides soft skill training as well as placement training. Pool placements are held and students with an aggregate of 60% or more usually get placements. Generally, software jobs are offered by visiting companies. Some of the companies that come to the campus placement are Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, TCS, Mindtree, Cognizant, HCL, Infosys, KPMG, HVAC. The average salary package offered is 2 LPA.
I am a second-year BTech student at IIT Bombay. My suggestion would be that you go for Mechanical at IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay is placed #3 in the Engineering category by NIRF 2023, and #118 by QS World Rankings 2025. IIT Bombay is currently among the top 3 IITs, and one of the fastest-growing engineering institutes in India.

In 2023, 104 students were placed from B.E. CSE at BITS Pilani, and the CTC Range was INR 11-38 LPA.
IIT Bombay is a much more affordable institution than BITS Pilani, and it has equally good placements. This makes it stand much higher in terms of ROI. Moreover, the IIT Bombay tag holds a lot of repute both nationally and globally.
Because of these reasons, I would suggest you choose IIT Bombay Mechanical over BITS Pilani CSE.
Comparing a dormant branch like Civil with the most coveted branch CSE isn’t a very logical way of getting an idea of the placement scenario. Every student of the CSE branch ends up with a core job so its placement scenario is incomparable. Civil Engineering despite having a low demand has a decent number of core positions recruited.
Nowadays, the youth is not interested in joining PSUs mainly because of their low pay in comparison to software companies. Most civil engineering students are interested in core positions so the numbers in non-core aren't that great. Moreover, the number of students interested in MS, CAT, and GATE is growing every year affecting the placement statistics largely.
Here is a general comparison of placement statistics of both the branches

The statistics don’t exactly convey the students' intention. In reality, most students are able to secure a job in their desired field, and only a few fail to do so.
