Which is better for CSE - MNNIT or IIT BHU?

SD
Subhasmita Desh Posted On : April 19th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

IIT BHU CSE is better than a CSE degree from MNNIT. In fact, CSE in the top 15 IITs is better than topmost NITs including MNNIT. You will have better placement opportunities at IIT BHU.

IIT BHU CSE average package is around INR 25 LPA. Almost 100% of students get placed through the campus drive.

The ‘IIT’ tag has its advantages. As a student of IIT BHU, you will have better opportunities in terms of academics and placements.

Can I shift from BBDNITM, Lucknow to any other UPTU university, like say IET or HBTI, in my second year of a B.Tech by lateral entry or some other method?

Well to be frank enough, it is not quite possible. Let's say for example if you got admission to one college like BBDNITM, Lucknow. Shifting to a UPTU university will be tougher for you.

You have to go through the UPSEE exam to get admission to a government engineering college. There is an exam for lateral entries of the students but at least for appearing in that exam, you must be graduated.

Here I have briefly differentiated both the colleges that you have mentioned in your question :

Parametres BBDNITM Lucknow IET Lucknow
Course Fee 2.2 lakh 3.44 lakh
Placement Percentage 50% 70%
Highest CTC 6 LPA 23 LPA
Average CTC 3 LPA 6-7 LPA

A lot of well-reputed companies participate in the placement process of IET Lucknow. But at BBDNITM mostly mass recruiters like TCS come, offering a salary package ranging from 2-3.5 LPA. The participating companies at IET Lucknow include Microsoft, KPMG, Capgemini, Accenture, HP, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, TCS, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, etc.

How often can I visit home while pursuing a two year PGPM course at MDI Gurgaon?

AA
Ashutosh Agarwal Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
PGDM from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2019)

MDI Gurgaon PGPM program is residential and requires its students to stay within campus 24/7. The reason is the unexpected guest lectures, extra classes, and various student activities that usually take place on Saturdays. So leaving the campus to visit your family is out of the question unless you want to miss all these activities.

While some of these activities are only optional, many are compulsory and might affect your placements and academics directly. Moreover, assignments and submissions are usually done on weekends as weekdays are too hectic. So if you are willing to travel home, you can manage to do so once or twice a month making sure none of these activities are affected.

Should I target the IIM/XLRI/FMS required CAT score?

GS

PGDM Human Resources, Xavier School of Management (2017)

My sister attempted CAT aiming for top IIM and she is now pursuing MBA in Finance +CA + CFA at JBIMS Mumbai. Here are some tips for you based on her experience.

Instead of aiming for a particular score, perform to the best of your potential. If you are certain to score 90 percentile, then you must at least score 91 percentile in Mock Test. But remember that a score of 91 might not be good enough in the actual exam. It’s better to aim for a score of 100 than aiming for the lower cutoff score.

Let assume that you want to specialize in the field of Finance but it is totally up to your choice and preference to complete the qualification. Take the motivation that there is never a limit to do what you can. This works better when you have clarity over your aim and proper planning. on why you want to do something and at what point of time in your life. Proper planning and knowing what you want will help.

If my academics are average then what should I do to get good business colleges like IIMs and XLRI?

You should work on cracking CAT and XAT competitive examinations. If you score well in these exams and you are in the top 100 then nobody can stop you from getting admission to these colleges.

  • You have to have good scores in CAT and XAT exams.
  • You need to perform well in the interviews as well.
  • At IIM weightage is given to academic performances but weightage is only 30% rest 70% weightage is given to CAT scores and your performance in the personal interview.
  • You should be a consistent performer in academics.
  • To get admission at XLRI, you need to score high in the XAT exam.

Your past academic performances are not the criteria for selection but you should be well prepared for the interview for answering those questions related to your past academic performance. The major weightage in the admission process is given to the XAT scores.

Which is better for CSE? (IIT Roorkee vs BITS Pilani vs IIT BHU vs IIIT Hyderabad)

AB

Lives in Bangalore

Every Institute has its unique aspects as well as its own strengths and weaknesses. Some factors to consider include the quality of the faculty, the resources available to students, the research opportunities, and the campus culture.

IIT Roorkee, BITS Pilani, and IIT BHU CS are definitely excellent but IIIT Hyderabad wins the race when it comes to CS. It’s second only to IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, and Madras. Because of only 2 branches, the entire focus of the Institute is on CS only. The opportunities, ambiance, and faculty are aligned with the requirements for a good CS branch. Another good option is IIT BHU because of its high ROI.

Having known a few friends in all 4 institutes, I can confidently say that those who chose IIIT Hyderabad CS over IIT Roorkee are doing better now. The IIT tag certainly is helpful but only to a limited extent. The exposure provided by IIIT Hyderabad and its excellent placement opportunities overshadows the much coveted IIT Tag making it a better choice among all institutes. But those looking for stability, facilities, academia, and vast opportunities can go for IIT Roorkee.

I have already taken admission in Meghnad Saha institute of technology under my WBJEE rank. Is there now any chance of getting admission in Heritage?

AA

Only recently, one of my friends secured admission at Heritage Institute of Technology after attempting for admission at Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management. Given his situation, it is safe to say that the issue shall be considered the same even if you arrive from Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology.

Following his visit to Heritage Institute of Technology, IEM and Techno India Salt lake, he opted to take admission at the former. The institute rather mentioned that their reporting session was completed, however, if there was a following vacancy and if the student could fulfill the criteria of the branch, then the institute would directly approach them for further admission processes.

It is best that you extract similar information from the administration office to have appropriate knowledge about the same.

Can an average non IITian make it into IIM Ahmedabad in the first attempt with three months preparation?

DS

Students ideally need 6 months to prepare for IIM A, B, C. There’s a lot more to CAT than just completing the syllabus. Test mastery takes time. But if you are extraordinary in English and Maths, then you can complete your preparation in 3 months. But such cases are quite rare.

What kind of marks I should target in GATE to get into NITIE Mumbai being a student from a normal private college with a 7.8 CGPA in civil engineering?

NS
Nandini Saha Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE offers admission based on CAT and GATE scores. Having a few friends from the institute, I think I can answer this question. NITIE usually considers more on GATE scores rather than the marks. As it has been observed that the students come from a varied educational background and thus the marks obtained by the applicant varies a lot depending on their educational background.

For instance, the highest marks obtained by a mechanical student go up to 95 and above while that of electronics, it is around 80. Thus one can see the difference in marks of the students obtained in both of the streams. Thus, to neutralize this variation, the GATE score is considered.

For an open category student, a GATE score of 700 and above will get them a call from NITIE.
