Is IIT Bombay the best IIT?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 23rd, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

IIT Bombay is certainly considered the best among the Engineering colleges in the country. I can list out a number of reasons why I prefer it over the other IITs.

  • Extremely learning and experienced professors with an immense passion for research.
  • Industry-relevant curriculum and application-oriented studies.
  • A flexible environment that helps students make the most out of the various facilities.
  • An amazing extracurricular culture that is promoted through various Cultural and technical events that offer an abundance of opportunities both for the onlookers and the participants
  • A relaxed campus life with a serene ambiance
  • A variety of traveling facilities includes municipal corporations, buses, taxis, suburb locals, long-distance trains or flights.

The last, but one of the most important factors is the IIT tag you get entitled to for the rest of your life. For most students, this is the deciding factor when it comes to choosing their college.

What is the minimum marks required in JEE Advanced to get into IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Roorkee computer science branch in the general category?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 5th, 2023

Firstly, there are no minimum marks required in JEE Advanced to get into IIT Delhi, Bombay, or any other IIT. Instead, the JEE cutoff is decided based on the performance of the students. The total questions, as well as the pattern of the exam, change every year, and thus the cutoff fluctuates every year.

To be on the safe side, try scoring more than 50% to secure admission into IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Roorkee CS branch (general category).

JEE Advanced 2022 cutoff for CS Department at various IITs has been tabulated below

Institute

What is the average package for electrical engineering at IIT Bombay?

AD
Aditya Devnikar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Studied Electrical Engineering & Electronics at IIT Bombay

The average packages vary for Core and Non-Core jobs in Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay.

  • Core: The packages range around 8-12 LPA
  • Non-Core: For non-core jobs, the packages range from 5 to 6 LPA

Most companies offering Non-core jobs, prefer BTech students rather than MTech students because of the JEE tag. Similarly, companies offering Core jobs prefer MTech students. The primary reason for preferring MTech students is that they are expected to stay at their job for at least 2 years before deciding on higher studies. BTech students on the contrary have more chances of leaving their job to pursue higher studies.

Additional knowledge of programming increases your chances of getting a core job with a decent package of around 14-16 LPA. Such offers are usually made by companies that are looking for CS students but also consider those MTech students who have the necessary skills. DD students have a higher probability of getting selected for such jobs as they were able to attend full and minor courses from the CS dept over the 5 years of their stay on campus.

What is IIT Bombay B.des life, study and job senario? [UCEED]

SJ
Shivansh Jog Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Studied B.Des at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

If you are interested in design, IIT Bombay offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (BDes) program. Admission to this program is based on the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) score. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can fill out the online application form.

One of the great things about the BDes program at IIT Bombay is that scholarships are available to students. This can help make the program more accessible and affordable.

When it comes to placements, the BDes batch of IIT Bombay has an impressive track record. In the most recent placements, 85.75% of BDes students received job offers. The median salary offered was INR 35 LPA, while the average was INR 17.9 LPA. This shows that there are plenty of exciting opportunities available to BDes graduates from IIT Bombay.

In addition to job placements, many BDes students at IIT Bombay also choose to do internships during their second year. This can provide valuable real-world experience and help students build their professional networks.

It's also worth noting that IIT Bombay has a company that is open to all students, including BDes students. However, there is a minimum criteria that students must meet in order to attend interviews. This varies depending on the company, but many require students to have a minimum CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) of 8 CGPA.

Overall, if you are interested in design and are looking for a top-tier program with great job opportunities, the BDes program at IIT Bombay is definitely worth considering.

What was your experience like getting into IIT, Bombay to do M.Tech - CSE after clearing the GATE?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

One of my friends got admission to IIT Bombay Computer Science and here is a detailed answer based on her experience.

The application process begins after GATE Ranks are released. You are required to opt for an Engineering discipline. If you did your bachelors in CS/IT, then you're allowed to opt for CSE, and some other Interdisciplinary courses like IEOR, etc.

Your application is then evaluated and then you might get a call if you clear the required criteria.

If you are willing to join CSE then I have 2 options for you.

  1. M.Tech as a Teaching Assistant: This is a 2-year programme; the first year is like any other course program comprising lectures, assignments, projects, and stuff while the second year requires you to work on your M.Tech. project.

Admission: Admissions with TA are done on the basis of GATE rank only and are not followed by any interviews or tests.

Course: Under this, you have to assist professors with their work such as managing lab sessions for UG students, exam supervision, etc.

  1. M.Tech as a Research Assistant: This is a 3-year program and is similar to TA except that you get to work on a funded research project under a professor from the very beginning. You get an additional year to complete your M.Tech coursework. The work is exciting and the course is less rigorous than TA.

Both TAs and RAs are required to complete the same number of minimum credits for their M.Tech degree, but RAs get an additional year. Admission to RA is difficult and is based on

  • A CS test
  • An interview if you manage to clear the test.

The test can consist of questions from the entire GATE syllabus. Once you clear the test, you have to sit for the interview.

Once you have been admitted to either of these, you have to choose from a wide range of courses. There are around 20 courses in the first semester, and you can choose them in 2 weeks by attending their classes and analyzing them. You have to select 3 (RA) or 4 (TA) courses.

The faculty pool is extremely learned and does justice to its reputation. Some are truly brilliant and awesome. Overall, the Institute fulfills all your expectations and stands up to its worth and credibility.

Why did you choose IIT Bombay over IISc after GATE?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 17th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

<p>Both IIT Bombay and IISc have great professors and ranking in electrical department is close yet the reasons behind choosing IIT Bombay over IISC after GATE are the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>All-round development: IISC is more academic oriented with fewer extra-curricular activities. You wanted to develop your social skills and participate in activities beyond academics.</li>
<li>Placements: IIT Bombay has better placements with a wider scope of jobs for communication engineers. The placement process is rigorous and teaches you a lot.</li>
<li>Opinions: You took opinions of professors from your bachelor's college, folks from industry and students of both colleges. More professors were leaning towards IISC, but industry folks unanimously favored IITB.</li>
<li>Nearer to hometown: Ahmedabad is nearer to Mumbai than Bengaluru, and the location plays a part in your decision along with better food in Mumbai.</li>
<li>At IITB, you will get fantastic two years with highly knowledgeable but humble faculties, will be given the opportunity to write two academic papers, make great friends, explore Mumbai and will definitely have a good placement.</li>
</ul>
<p>You will be happy with your decision at the end of the day and will not regret it. You cannot say if it is good or bad, but it will absolutely be the right one for you.</p>
