What do you think of IIT Mandi's new BTech program in Data Science and Engineering? Should other older IITs follow this trend?

VS
Vaibhav Sinha Posted On : May 27th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi

Bringing about new changes in the curriculum is a necessary step. Adapting to the changing trends is the ultimate ladder to success. No doubt the old IITs have a record of making huge contributions to society and inventing unimaginable things. They have been constantly improving the level of research but still lag behind the level of academics. The curriculums of most old IITs are rigid and are not at par with industry trends.

That being said, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Mandi BTEch in Data Science and Engineering programs are highly futuristic and seem very promising. These institutes are doing great by offering such updated programs.

With the recent advancements in technology and data development, courses like AI and Data Science are life savers. These courses will make the internet interface more human-friendly and also help in saving a lot of space and time.

I think it’s high time old IITs launch updated courses in order to be ready and be developed by the time data reaches its highest point.

Which is better, metallurgy at MNIT Jaipur or CSE at IIIT Kota, IIIT Vadodara?

RR
Rahul Roy Posted On : March 17th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Vadodara (2019)

I personally believe that the upcoming future will be a more tech-savvy and digital world. So, going for CSE/IT is an evergreen choice. And is better than metallurgy engineering.

  • In my point of view, you should start from the bottom line i.e., start from NITs rather than IIITs.
  • Even some NITs in the north-east, like NIT Meghalaya, NIT Silchar, and NIT Agartala are good enough for fields such as CSE/IT.
  • If not, then go for the IIIT colleges which are fully government-funded.

If there is no particular interest and just want a decent job in the future then choose CSE at IIIT Vadodara.

However, on the other hand, IIIT Kota is facing too many issues from faculties.

  • There are hardly one or two teachers with a research background. As an outcome of this what you will study will not have minute concepts it would be just theoretical knowledge from the books.
  • Though being good in coding but that just doesn't justify being in engineering college.
  • The college Atmosphere here is not good.

Hence if you are getting IIIT Kota CSE then you might also be getting some other good NITs and IIITs prefer them, else you will regret it if you are willing to achieve something bigger in life.

AR

B.Tech from Acharya Nagarjuna University (2016)

One of my friends studied at Acharya Nagarjuna University. He completed his B.Tech in ECE. According to him, the college overall was really good and benefited him in many ways. He mentions that like every other college it also has its fair share of pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Having a very supportive faculty who were highly experienced as well.
  • The campus atmosphere was great, perfect for an educational institution.
  • They encourage students to be good not only in academics but in extracurricular activities as well.
  • Many sports fests, cultural fests are conducted.
  • The lab facilities provided are really good, especially the ECE department.
  • The entire campus and hostels are wifi enabled.

Cons:

  • Placements are not up to the mark.
  • The hostel and mess food is not healthy and it becomes tough to get used to it.

After completing B.Tech from Acharya Nagarjuna University, you will learn a lot about yourself and how to function in a professional environment. They may lack proper placement offers but they will build you up so you can face any interview and secure a job offer.

Which is better, Kanpur civil or IIT BHU electrical?

A
Admin Posted On : June 12th, 2024

Both IIT BHU and IIT Kanpur are one of the best and oldest institutes in India. But according to me IIT Kanpur is better than IIT BHU here are some reasons:

  • IIT Kanpur generally ranks higher than IIT BHU in the NIRF rankings. As of the most recent rankings IIT Kanpur is usually within the top 5 engineering institutes in India and IIT BHU typically ranks between 10 to 15.
  • Both IIT Kanpur and IIT BHU have excellent placement records. Electrical Engineering at IIT BHU has placement records with an average CTC is 18 lakh whereas Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur also has strong placement statistics with an average CTC is 22 lakh.
  • When it comes to research education and course curriculum IIT Kanpur is better than IIT BHU.

Considering the above points I could say go for IIT Kanpur over IIT BHU. Although, it depends on personal choice.

What is the eligibility criteria for the B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University?

PG
Parijat Ghosh Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering,Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology (2017)

To be eligible for admission in the B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University, you have to score very good marks in your entrance examination to clear the cutoffs.

  • The cutoffs of Dibrugarh University are generally declared in the month of June and July through 'The Assam Tribune' and other local newspapers.
  • Dibrugarh University accepts students on the basis of both JEE and CEE scores.
  • If you are able to clear the cutoff marks, then you will be given a date to appear for the counselling process.
  • If you are looking for a seat in Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dibrugarh University then you should have a CEE score of more than 115 to be eligible for admission.
  • But this score again varies every year and depends on the result trends.
  • If you are looking for a seat in PE or ME, then the cutoff marks would be even higher as these two branches are in high demand and are more preferred in Assam.
  • The eligibility of all the branches (ME, PE, ECE & CSE) changes every year as it depends on the average scores of both JEE and CEE.
  • It also depends upon the number of students appearing for the examination.

Hence, to get admission in a B.Tech course in Dibrugarh University, you will have to appear for the entrance examination and clear the examination successfully, after which you will have to appear for the counselling process where the final decision regarding your admission will be made.

How good is it to join CSE at IIT Mandi instead of EEE at the Pilani campus of BITS?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 27th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Institute-wise, BITS Pilani is much better than IIT Mandi. But branch-wise, both CSE and EEE are equally good with CSE at a slighter advantage.

From this, we can infer that BITS Pilani EEE is a better choice. The placement scenario of both the branches is the same and that’s when the institute's credibility comes into play.

Many top firms recruit only from old IITs and BITS Pilani and new IITs are not even considered by these top companies. There is a stark contrast between placement scenarios of old and new IITs in terms of the package and roles offered.

I feel students are initially unaware of their actual interests and so it’s better to target a better college than a better branch. BITS Pilani EE fulfills all the criteria and offers a plethora of placement options that might not be available in new IITs like IIT Mandi.

As far as the IIT tag is concerned, the increasing number of new IITs has diluted its brand value. The IIT tag brand value rests with the old IITs only and the new IITs are not that respected. Companies prefer students from institutes like BITS Pilani or IIIT Hyderabad rather than new IITs.

How and when does a student have to do an internship at Thapar University (B.E. Electrical)?

AR
Aranya Roy Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studies CSE at Thapar University (2018)

I have a friend from Thapar University and he was able to provide some information regarding this. In the B.E. Electrical course, you can secure internship opportunities twice, wherein the first one will be in the 8th semester, and the other one is a 6 week-long training period.

  • Students who acquire placements with FTE+intersip or only internship have to continue doing it for as long as the contract is.
  • Students who don’t secure any placement must work on their own to obtain internships. It’s better to choose an internship program at any core company. Elsewise, you will obtain lower grades.

For the 6-week training, you will need to search for internship opportunities, especially on your own in numerous parts of the industry. The firms can range anywhere from a reactor plant, a thermal plant, or a hydroelectric plant. It depends upon your academic exposure and credentials. The work should be related to the branch and the topics you are familiar with. Make sure to create the file with accurate and standard formatting, to avoid mark deduction.
