What are the top consults that visit IIM Lucknow? What are the numbers of hires per top consulting firm at IIM Lucknow?

SP
Saheli Palit Posted On : February 22nd, 2021
Ph.D in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Expected 2022)

Instead of going with the conventional approach, let us approach this question differently. This will still be accurate and provide the correct assumptions and statistics as the question demands.

There are 20 IIMs in total and even if all of these institutions have been selecting students for their upcoming batch, the status quo is not more than one-third of the students of a batch of any IIM including IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. This is because of factors such as a student’s attitude, previous work experience, and not because of any supply-demand constraints. It is also to be noted that none of the IIMs selects a candidate below 96%ile in CAT.

Out of the total students in a batch at IIM Lucknow, around 150 are fit for consulting roles. Similarly, 100 may be perfect for sales roles and not marketing or any finance roles. Now as we know that 150 students are available for consulting companies, all of these 150 students are made offers by consulting companies visiting the campus and none of the offers gets rejected.

If the richer Investment Banking companies visit the campus, the students will get divided by their preferences as to where to go. But, it was only in the 1990s when Nomura visited the campus of IIM Lucknow making an offer for its global business.

The list of consulting companies visiting IIM Lucknow is as follows: Bain, ATK, BCG, Accenture, McKinsey, Cognizant, HCL, KPMG, E&Y, etc.

How do I get transcripts from IIM Lucknow?

NC
Nishant Chhabra Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2010)

A friend of mine recently got her duplicate mark sheets/transcripts issued from IIM Lucknow. There's a simple way which you can also follow and get single or multiple sets of transcripts as per your need and requirement.

  • First, you need to scan the same mark sheets for which you need transcripts and there are multiple ways of paying the charges which is INR 500/- per set which depends on how many sets of transcripts you want.
  • You can simply make a DD in favor of “IIM Lucknow” which is payable at Lucknow only and can send it to ‘PGP Office, Indian Institute of Management, Prabandh Nagar, IIM Road, Lucknow-226 013’ along with the scanned copies of your grade sheets in sets.
  • After receiving your application, the transcripts will be sent to you in separately sealed multiple envelopes arranged in sets on the same postal address mentioned by you (India Only). For any clarification or any additional information, you can simply contact the PGP office for the same.
  • Don't forget to mention your postal address as the transcripts will be delivered to the same address.

In case you want to transfer the charges online then you can send it through NEFT on the band details as shown below:

Bank name

HDFC Bank Ltd.

Account Name

Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow

A/c No

07231450000294

For reference, you can also provide screenshots of transferred funds along with the date to help track your payment with ease.

Which previous years did IIM Lucknow conduct the CAT, and what should be the strategy to write the CAT when IIM Lucknow is conducting it?

AS
Ayushi Srivastav Posted On : September 19th, 2022

IIM Lucknow conducted the 2017 CAT after 7 years. The institute is known to be quant-oriented. The quant section is generally most difficult on years, IIM Lucknow set the question paper. But an overall balance is maintained in terms of difficulty. If the quant section is difficult, the other section will be comparably easy.

It is natural for B-Schools to stick to their forte. But that does not mean you need to change your preparation strategy. Rather than trying anything new, you should try to strengthen your skills.

What are the academic requirements to get into IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow?

A

MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur

On the basis of your CAT score, gender, academic, and work profile the institutes shortlist you and give out calls to attend their interview process. On the basis of your combined performance score in the interview and your overall profile, you’ll be granted admission.

IIM Lucknow:

IIM Lucknow has more weightage to the CAT scores in the shortlisting criteria for the interview process. After the interview, the following weightage is followed for the admission process of the institute. IIM Lucknow gives more weightage to the previous academics in the final selection thus is much important to a fresher.

CAT

Academic Performance

5+5

Diversity Factor

5

Work Experience

WAT

10

PI

Final Score

IIM Indore:

IIM Indore gives the least importance to CAT score and considers academic scores heavily for shortlisting the students for interview calls. Students shortlisted for the interview process need to undertake an aptitude test, Written ability Test, and interview based on which the total composite score is calculated for the final selection.

There are no specific academic requirements as such to get into IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow. You need to have a minimum percentage of marks mentioned by institutes in your graduation program and can give CAT to apply for the colleges.

What percentile should I score in CAT (GEM) to have a fair chance for IIM ABCLKIS, MDI, FMS, SPJIMR, and NITIE provided I have 95% in both 10th, 12th and 8.7 CGPA in BTech (fresher)?

To increase your chances of getting a call from different MBA colleges, it's important to know their criteria for selection.

  • IIM Indore focuses primarily on academic scores.
  • MDI doesn't consider academic scores but may grill candidates for low scores.
  • Bangalore looks for both academics and work experience.
  • Calcutta typically gives out calls to candidates with very high percentiles.
  • Ahmedabad looks for academic diversity.
  • SPJIMR considers your overall profile and academics.
  • Kozhikode focuses on gender diversity and requires a very high percentile score.
  • Shillong and NITIE typically call candidates with scores around 97, but NITIE has a higher cutoff for VARC.
  • For Bangalore, a fresher may need a score of around 99.8-99.9, and with work experience, a score of around 98.8 may suffice.
  • For Kozhikode, aim for a percentile score of 99.9 or above.
  • FMS typically calls candidates with a score of 99.3 but aims for a score of 99.6 to increase conversion chances.

To increase your chances of getting a call, aim for a high percentile score.

What CAT percentile is required for FMS Delhi or the IIM I, L, or Shillong, if you are in the reservation category?

SR
Sunil Roger Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Shillong

There are three types of reservation categories OBC SC And ST. I have tabulated the CAT cutoff for these categories below

Institute

OBC

SC

ST

FMS Delhi

39.991 (Composite Score)

32.452 (Composite Score)

24.257 (Composite Score)

IIM Indore

80

60

50

IIM Lucknow

82

70

65

IIM Shillong

75

60

50

FMS Delhi calculates a Composite Score whereas Shillong has sectional cutoff. Your academics play a major role in calculating the composite score. Some tips for candidates from SC and ST categories are

  • Leave the questions you don’t know the answers of
  • Attempt at least 7 questions from each section accurately.
  • The questions you have a vague idea of can be written through guesswork.

If your academic record is below average, answer more questions accurately to compensate for that.

How have CAT papers been when IIM Lucknow has set them?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Worked at Siemens (company) (2014–2017)

Quant was heavily emphasized at IIM Lucknow. In the interview, they questioned me about the reasons for my low quantitative score. They are also very interested in increasing diversity. To meet both of these criteria, the number of quantitative questions may increase, but the overall difficulty of the section may decrease for non-engineers.

The DILR section will remain challenging. It's the only section where test takers can get a sense of a candidate's intelligence and decision-making abilities. DILR will retain its difficulty because CAT is now administered on a single day, making it easy for test takers to keep track of the difficulty level and scale their scores accordingly.

The convenor of the CAT has been replaced. As a result, the format of the test may change significantly. A well-prepared student will perform regardless of how many changes the test format may undergo.

With a 92.25 percentile in CAT, should I go for IMT Ghaziabad or take the CAT next year for IIM Lucknow?

AR
Ashwin Railfan Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2021)

I know it is a tough decision because I have seen my sister in a similar dilemma last year. What she did was focus on the below 3 aspects and made a decision.

Work Experience: It’s not understandable that with a work experience of 3+ years why you are only targeting IIM Lucknow and not other top IIMs like A B or C. Also if you don't want IMTG, you should wait and give GMAT and try for ISB.

Educational Background: Your chances of getting into IIM Lucknow next year depend largely on your past academic records which cannot be changed. So you need to ensure they are enough to make you eligible for the cutoff and worth the wait.

Lastly, you should be confident of the risk you are willing to take. Choosing IMTG vs IIML is a no-brainer. So check whether you are choosing IMTG just because you are not confident of being able to get into IIM Lucknow next year or not.

What should I choose between SPJIMR Finance and IIM Lucknow, having converted both?

KA
Khalid Akhtar Posted On : January 9th, 2023
PGDM in Finance, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2003)

Honestly, both institutes have their own legacy and are excellent in the finance sector. Yet here I am writing some major points in favor of IIM Lucknow based on my cousin's experience.

Placements: The placements at IIM Lucknow for finance have been doing exceptionally well with the highest CTC standing at INR 53.34 LPA and the average CTC at INR 32.21 LPA. A good number of front-end roles, corporate finance roles, and foreign markets desks based out of India were offered.

  • Front end: JP Morgan, Citibank, Morgan Stanley, Black Rock, Kotak, Investec, Avendus, Arga Investments
  • Foreign markets desk based out of India: Deutsche Bank, Bank of Americal Merryl Lynch, Citibank, Goldman Sachs
  • Corporate Finance roles: HUL, Mondelez, Airtel

Faculty: The top-notch faculty offers the best classroom learning backed up by Guest lectures and Industry workshops to promote maximum exposure.

Learning: IIM Lucknow offers a wide range of electives to choose from based on your interests. Some of them include Investor Psychology, Quantitative applications in finance, Project Finance, Corporate Banking & Risk Management.

SPJIMR is also a good choice for Finance but from what I have read, many major firms that visit IIM Lucknow don't visit SPJIMR so this might limit your opportunities to a small extent.
