Fergusson College Pune will be a better option for pursuing BA in Psychology. The institute has an excellent faculty pool. The professors and the teaching staffs are co-operative. You can ask for their help regarding any academic issues. Psychology is among the most sought-after branches in the college. Fergusson also ranks higher than Xaviers.
Before I talk about the credibility of both branches, let’s understand the basic difference between them. Geology is basically an observational science that tries to explain various phenomena and processes taking place at or near the surface of the Earth. On the other hand, Geophysics uses physical tools like Gravity, Potential, Seismic, Magnetic, etc. to study the interior of the Earth. It’s more like a branch of Geology itself.
The coursework in Geological technology covers topics related to rocks, minerals, ores, volcanoes, mountains, oceans, glaciers, sediments, petroleum reservoirs, landslides, earthquakes, geoinformatics, and much more. The curriculum is similar to that of Applied Geology. The coursework in Geophysics comprises basic geological concepts along with detailed Geophysics concepts. Both branch students can opt for interdisciplinary courses as departmental electives. This initiative helps the students to gain an overall knowledge of Earth Sciences.
Placements-wise, both offer similar opportunities with the core recruiter being the same; the Energy Sector - Oil and Coal industry. Mineral exploration also offers core jobs to these two branches. The opportunities offered are equal and any difference stems from the individual's performance and not the branch’s credibility.
The majority of students are inclined towards research with the Geology students having an edge over Geophysical students in this aspect. For those seeking a management position or preparing for IAS, these two branches are the best owing to their light workload.
Both IET Lucknow and Thapar University are renowned colleges. Just as in every college they both have their strengths and weaknesses. As I got to know some people from these colleges while researching, I might be able to help you with your question.
Categories | IET Lucknow | Thapar University |
Course Fee | 3.44 lakh | 13.23 lakh |
Highest CTC | 16 LPA | 25-26 LPA |
Average CTC | 6-7 LPA | 12 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | ZS Associates, TCS, Cognizant, HCL, etc. | Microsoft, Apple, Wipro, Infosys, etc. |
You might lose interest while studying at IET as it is not as lavish as other private colleges or even like Thapar. But if you work hard enough you can reach greater heights, no matter which college you graduate from.
My answer is specifically for the UG students. In my opinion, JIPMER Pondicherry is a better option than AIMS Jodhpur. It's one of the oldest Indian medical colleges. Let's go through a few pros and cons of the institute to explain further why this will prove to be a better option for you.
Pros
Cons
Any smart person can point out that the pros clearly overshadow the cons and thus we can say that while AIIMS Jodhpur is fast growing, it will take some time to match the level of top medical colleges like JIPMER, PGI, and AIIMS Delhi.
SSIM is one of the premier B-schools in Hyderabad, which has over 30+ years of legacy and 5000+ alumni. Currently, I am in my 2nd year of the PGDM TPS program. SSIM helped me to become a corporate-ready individual by the end of 1st year itself which helped me to qualify for an internship at Deloitte and receive a Pre-placement Offer (PPO) just after the completion of my 1st year of PGDM.
SSIM Curriculum includes managerial competency development courses such as Experiential Learning, Book review sessions, Social projects, and Company Review Sessions to name a few. In our Experiential Learning Project during Term 1 we visited a manufacturing company. This was my first exposure to a corporate which helped me to understand how corporates function, get acquainted with the corporate culture, allocation and optimum utilization of resources, and most importantly corporates’ expectations of management graduates.
SSIM will nurture and groom students for long-term professional careers along with the vision of making socially responsible business leaders. Wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
My brother is an NITJ alumni and he strongly recommends joining NCC in NIT Jalandhar. Some points that support his recommendation are:
Reserved qouta in various exams like SSC-CGL
Excellent exposure
No compulsory attendance at athletic fest
Disciplined life that leads to self improvement
A touch of life of Armed Forces
Apart from NCC, NSS is also a good option. But don’t go for NSO at all. There are hardly any benefits to avail of.
I have a cousin who is currently working as a senior software engineer at Walmart. He is anex-student of IGDTUW. This alone negates all the claims of people stating IGDTUW is a below-average institute with poor infrastructure and zero placement opportunities. In fact, the first job he landed with campus placements was at Adobe. His juniors got placed in better companies like Google, Facebook, etc which speaks of the improving placement scenario.
Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes

Its true that NIT Calicut may have an upper hand in terms of infrastructure, but in the long run, that does not really matter. A college can give you the wings to fly and it's on you how high you rise. Moreover, being a girl, you will have better opportunities in a girl's college like IGDTUW.
Yes, you will have to make small sacrifices like moving away from your home and adjusting to minimal facilities but in the end, it will be worth it!
Both Indira PIBM and RIIM Pune are reputed management institute. But as far as an MBA institution is concerned, check some facts to reach a conclusion. RIIM Pune is great in aspects like the faculty members, placement scenario, practical experience, etc. I can give you some insight into RIIM as I have a few friends there.
RIIM Pune is ranked among the top B-Schools of Pune. The curriculum is designed according to the industry’s needs.
Placements:
Extracurriculars:
Student Intake:
Since the intake at RIIM Pune is limited, every student, individually, gets the attention of the professors. Other colleges take 500+ students where the attention of the professors is always divided. RIIM has a faculty set of highly experienced people.
Keeping industrial visits aside, there are frequent guest lectures by experienced professionals. The college focuses on creating managers who are street-smart and as far the curriculum of the college is concerned, it serves the purpose well.
RIIM is great as it makes the students ready for industry management in the future.
Although all the B Schools you mentioned are very good, the one I would personally recommend is FORE. Some points that favor my recommendation are

Since you are considering TCS Digital as another option, I am assuming you have decent coding skills. So, you can build your profile while pursuing an MTech in CSE. Unless you have any financial constraints, it's better to complete your MTech first.
