There is nothing called a good CGPA. CHPA depends on what you are willing to do afterwards.
For a job: As far as placements are concerned, anything above 7 or 7.5 will fetch you a decent job. 8+ will get you even better jobs in flagship companies.
For higher studies: If you want to pursue higher studies, much more is considered than just CGPA. Some of these factors are 10 and 12 marks, GPA and work experience.
So an 8+ GPA will get you both a good job and colleges. But it’s not the sole factor. It all comes down to how much efforts you are willing to put.
Honestly, the evaluation process at Anna University is quite messed up. There is no proper strategy behind their valuation. It’s just your luck that decides your marks.
Most of the students have to apply for revaluation, the fees for which is around INR 700 for a single paper. Apart from this if you are willing to apply for a challenge review, the cost is INR 3000. All this seems like a money making strategy. Despite revaluation students keep getting worse grades every year.
This practice is spoiling the future of so many bright students. Hope someone takes action.
The most important factor you should consider before opting for this course is your own interest in this field. If you are a fan of computer programming, then this course is perfect for you. Some features of this course are:
As far as the placements are considered, many IT companies visit for bulk placements and recruit Geoinformatics students. One of the core companies that comes for placements is ESRI India.
As this center serves as an industry and an educational institute, you will have a lot of practical exposure.
The faculty are from diverse backgrounds who are specialized in applying the Geospatial Technology to their respective domains.
So this course will be very beneficial in the long run.
If SSN College of Engineering becomes an autonomous college under Anna University, the current students will be entitled to the following benefits:
Students will be free from the messed up revaluation criteria
They will have liberal attendance rules
Organised exam schedules
Internal marks
More focus on focus on extra-curricular, sports and club activities
Application oriented learning
Increase in popularity of the college among student communities
So becoming an autonomous institution will bring in a lot of benefits to its current students provided that the management conducts a thorough research on what measures need to be adopted to really raise the quality of education. SSN will change its ideology of being conventional to being practical.
One of my relatives happened to choose SSN. She has visited the campuses of both the colleges namely, Anna University and SSN. She told me that SSN was way ahead of AU in many aspects. Some amazing features of SSN are:
Amazing infrastructure with top notch Wi-Fi facilities
Diverse crowd which helps you get more exposure
SSN does not force its students to attend classes
SSN emphasises on the overall development of its students and fulfilling their dreams
Good hostel facilities
My relative completed her M.E. from SSN and went to CEG to pursue PhD. She regrets this decision a lot. She had listed so many shortcomings of CEG. Some of them have been listed below.
Lack of proper sanitation facilities
No emphasis on extracurricular activities or club activities
Lack of transport facilities
So SSN focuses more on quality rather than quantity.
One of my friends is a CEG alumni. He thinks it’s the best option for CSE. Some strong points that support his opinions are:
Faculty: The faculty of CEG is of good quality. Many are experienced and alumni of CEG themselves.
Diverse Background: CEG welcomes a mix crown. Your peers are from everywhere across India and this makes it a more thrilling experience.
Rules and Regulations: CEG does not impose unnecessary rules on its students. They are given an extent of freedom.
Infrastructure: Classrooms and laboratories are well equipped. Canteen food is of good quality at very low cost.
Network: CEG has excellent Wi-Fi facilities.
Hostel: Although the food is of average quality, the cost of hostels is less. The buildings are poor but in good condition.
Extracurricular activities: CEG believes in exposure to extracurricular activities other than academics.
Global Recognition: CEG has excellent recognition among foreign universities.
So overall CEG is the best option of all the other colleges you mentioned. But the placements at CS are better.
So the conclusion is CEG > SSN > SRM/Amrita.

The general opinion regarding the results of Anna University is don’t expect anything. There is no proper strategy behind their checking. There is a very poorly organized and careless system for the same. Hundreds of students complain about their shocking marks and final retort to revaluation. The cost of revaluation is extremely high. It seems that it’s the university’s strategy to earn money.
The results at Anna University are always unsatisfactory and many students apply for revaluation every year.
The entire procedure of changing colleges is online. Follow the following steps:
Confirm vacancy and decision first with the college you are getting transferred to.
Next visit your current college’s administration department
Fill in your details for transfer on a website that they only have the login permission given individually to all affiliated colleges. You will also have to fill in the name of the college you are getting transferred to.
A PDF will be generated that needs to be sealed and signed by the dean/principal of your current college.
Collect the PDF from them and give it to the college you wish to transfer. They will enter details online and generate a PDF that has to be signed by that college principal/dean.
Now collect that PDF and mail it to the DOTE office in chennai.
The required documents for this procedure will just be your 12th class marksheet and Hall ticket of the previous semester.
No, the maximum duration to complete your degree in Anna University is 7 years. This includes 4 years in college and 3 additional years for those who are unable to complete their degree within 4 years. But after 7 years you cannot complete your degree.
Before 2017, the students who would fail even after 7 years would get a grace period of 1 year. But this practice has been abolished according to the new regulations.
The decision has made it impossible for anyone who had enrolled before 2011 to clear engineering arrears again.
