Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has scheduled the end-semester exams from January 18, 2021, albeit in offline mode. However, students are concerned about COVID-19 spread and have demanded VTU and affiliated colleges to conduct the exams in online mode.
Students are worried that returning to VTU campuses in large numbers might not be safe for them. India Wide Parents Association also wrote a letter to the CM mentioning that many colleges are calling students for offline labs without any advance notice.
BS College of Engineering students raised their concern by writing a letter which reads, "Only one hostel has a single-room facility, but they need to share common washrooms and bathrooms. Rest of the colleges have 2 or 3 students sharing a room. In the mess, 6 students share a table and even plates and spoons."

In view of the pandemic situation, there are several Universities conducting exams in online mode. On the other hand, the University has also limited hostel facilities, due to which many students will have to look for PG accommodations.
VTU and affiliated colleges students also raised their voice on social media for cancellation of VTU exams offline exams as the trending protest. Some students also alleged that the syllabus is yet to be completed and online classes are not that effective.
Responding to students' demand for online exams, VTU Vice-Chancellor said, “Many Universities have tried online exams and have miserably failed with accessibility and proctoring. While conducting online exams, the network is a big challenge. We cannot hope to conduct online classes.”

He also said that for final year VTU students, exams had been successfully conducted in offline mode. The University has planned to follow a model of staggering students. The varsity will start with 7th semester, followed by 5th and 3rd semesters.
VTU is also getting its hostel ready for the examinations. He further informed that the attendance for theory classes is 50% and that for practical classes is close to 80%.
