Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will now introduce a biology course for engineers from the current academic year, 2021-22.

As per the VTU reports, all the engineering colleges under VTU will offer “Biology for Engineering,” which will be a part of the ‘ability enhancement courses’ under the National Education Policy (NEP)

The new course will be launched for the second-year students too, which will help the students who aspire to pursue engineering programmes under lateral entry.

While talking to a news agency, VTU Vice-chancellor, Karisiddappa stated that during the Covid-19 circumstances, the engineers worked closely with doctors to design medical equipment, using the advanced technology such as artificial neural, which pointed out the need for the biological concepts in the engineering courses.

“With an aim to make the education system more autonomous, the launch of the new subject, Biology, will be considered the first iteration policy,” said VTU VC.
