UGC Extends Deadline to Send Feedback on NHEQF Draft

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission, UGC has extended the deadline to send the feedback on the draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework (NHEQF) till February 21, 2022.

The draft on NHEQF has constituted details on learning outcomes needed at different stages, ranging from undergraduate (UG) to PhD level. These stages have been broken down into eight levels with details of credit requirements for each.

The Universities can offer a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree with multiple entries and exit options as proposed in the NEP 2020, and the NHEQF will allow for the use of an academic bank of credits.

Earlier, the draft was now open for all the interested universities and stakeholders, who were eligible to send their objections and their recommendations to the guidelines, nepnheqf@gmail.com by February 13, 2022. However, the deadline has now been extended to February 21, 2022.

A student will have to earn credits based on the amount of workload and learner engaged time in order to earn a certificate or a diploma.

As per the draft, in order to earn a certificate 40 credits will be required and 80 credits for a diploma, whereas 120 credits will be needed for a degree and 160 credits will be required for a degree with honours and research components.

Similarly, in order to earn a postgraduate diploma degree, students should have to earn 40 credits and 80 credits to acquire a master's degree.

Recently, the draft UG curriculum framework 2022 was passed by the Delhi University Academic Council members, who said that the fixing of the academic year 2022-23 as the year of implementation of NEP 2020 is baseless.

Further, the scheme is absurd that in a year’s time this was the fourth model of FYUP placed by the University for discussion and that the UGCF does not follow the framework as prescribed by draft NHEQF, the council members said.

According to the latest reports, the DU Executive Council approved the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) for the 2022-23 academic session, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) which is available @du.ac.in.
