UGC Conducts Webinar on Cybersecurity Empowerment; Read Details Here


The University Grants Commission (UGC) hosted a webinar on "Cybersecurity Empowerment of Higher Education Institutions." This initiative was taken by the UGC in order to make cyber security more accessible, available, and adaptable for higher education institutions.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) Secretary Rajnish Jain welcomed and introduced all of the speakers. He set the tone for the webinar by emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity knowledge in light of the increased reliance on technology during the pandemic.

He also emphasized that the epidemic has forced higher education online, making higher education institutions more vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. He believes that it is critical to comprehend how cyber security issues can be addressed and cyber hygiene controlled.

Lt. Gen. Rajesh Pant, national cyber security coordinator, National Cyber Coordination Center, PMO, delivered the keynote presentation. He emphasized and reaffirmed the economic and national security threats posed by cybercrime.

 He concentrated on higher education institutions' cybersecurity, which is dependent on personal information and intellectual property. He emphasized the characteristics of institutions that make them vulnerable to cybercrime, as well as the steps that must be taken to address these concerns.

While making his remarks, Abhishek Singh, CEO of My Gov and president and CEO of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, emphasized the necessity of cyber security due to the increased reliance and use of cyberspace. 

He also spoke about cybersecurity, including cyberattacks, fraud, and the use of cyber warfare, emphasizing the steps and precautions that must be taken to be safe. He discussed the many facets of cybercrime, as well as the necessary precautions and reporting procedures.

Deepak Virmani, deputy secretary, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), cyber and information security division, ministry of home affairs, discussed the CIS's initiatives and efforts in cybercrime management. He discussed the MHA's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) plan, which attempts to prevent cybercrime. 

He went into great detail about the scheme's seven verticals, which include training for police officers and government officials. He also informed citizens about the numerous portals and helpline numbers available to them.

Charu Malhotra, coordinator, Indian Institute of Planning and Administration's Centre of e-Governance, New Delhi, presented the findings on cybersecurity based on an examination of a pre-webinar questionnaire distributed to higher education institutions. 

She emphasized the current state of cyber security and preparedness among higher education institutions.

In his discussion, Naveen Chowdhary, of the National Forensic Science University in Gandhinagar, discussed the cybersecurity threat environment, highlighting incidents of cybersecurity compromises in educational institutions and research facilities. The faculty members participated in a question-and-answer session at the end of the webinar.
