New Delhi: An official from the Tripura education department has stated that the state is all set to have a National Law University. A bill seeking the establishment of the university will be tabled in the next session of the assembly.
According to the official, all the academic activities of the national law university are likely to be conducted from the Tripura Judicial Academy building for the next academic session, which will be shortly shifted to a new building.

The education department official said that Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura Law Minister, met with the concerned authorities to push the plan for the establishment of a full-fledged national law university in Tripura.
Further, a committee consisting of the state government representatives, judges of Tripura High Court and legal experts, will be constituted, who will suggest the process for the appointment of chancellor, vice-chancellor, and faculty members for the university.
These panel members will be responsible for finalizing the courses to be offered in the university. The state government intends to make it an institution of national importance to produce well-qualified lawyers. Currently, the law college in Tripura has a capacity of 60 students.
In other news, MNLU Aurangabad has recently announced its plans to offer 2 new UG and PG courses, BBA LLB (Hons), an MBA in law and course management for the academic year 2022-23.

National Law Universities or NLUs are the most sought-after law colleges for admission into law programmes. India boasts a total of 23 NLUs, affiliated to the Bar Council of India (BCI), and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Some of the prominent institutes like NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR, and NLU Delhi are the flag bearers of law education in India, which have produced and shaped some of the sharpest legal minds.
The NLUs offer UG courses like LLB and postgraduate degree courses, Ph.D., and diploma courses and admissions to these courses in all the NLUs, except for NLU Delhi, is conducted based on CLAT scores. NLU Delhi conducts its own entrance exam, the All India Law Entrance Test, AILET.
