According to the statement released, the association asked the School Education Department and Tamil Nadu state government to clear up confusion regarding the board exams, school reopening, as well as the fine details of the reduced syllabus.

Schools in Tamil Nadu have been closed since March. This is much like the other states of the country. However, while many states have now started reopening schools, the Tamil Nadu government has given no such update.

Previously, the Tamil Nadu government had decided to open school on November 16, 2020. This decision was later retracted by the government. However, the state has recently reopened medical colleges from December 7, 2020.

In addition to medical colleges, the Tamil Nadu government also gave permission to degree colleges for reopening. This was only limited for final year undergraduate students. Colleges in the state had already opened for postgraduate students.

Further, the Tamil Nadu state government has also decided to issue all the teachers working in government and government-aided schools with smart cards. These cards will be linked to the Education and Management Information System.

These smart cards will be equipped with a microchip. These microchips would store all the information regarding the teacher to whom the smart card is issued. This would help the government keep an efficient track of the teachers in school.
