Tezpur University, IOCL collaborates to promote compressed biogas in North-East India

New Delhi: In order to promote compressed biogas in North-East India, Tezpur University and IOCL work together.

An agreement was signed by Tezpur University and Indian Oil Corporation Limited to promote compressed biogas in the nation's northeast. Dr. Biren Das, the registrar of Tezpur University, and Bijay Kumar, the general manager of IOCL's alternative energy branch, signed the contract.

Professor Dhruba Kumar Bhattacharyya, the university's acting vice-chancellor, said that the deal will "strengthen industry-academia collaboration" and expressed the hope that it would "soon lead to an extension of such a partnership in various other fields."

According to a statement, "Tezpur University has been working to promote biogas through target-oriented research, and several locally accessible biomasses have been identified as promising feedstock for the generation of fuel (biogas) and organic fertiliser with guaranteed recycling of crop nutrients."

The formal collaboration came about as a result of the biogas research being conducted on the Tezpur University campus, particularly the creation of bio-methane and organic fertiliser utilising a variety of plant residues and garbage, Kumar added.

The statement said, "The Center's Sustainable Alternative Toward Affordable Transportation initiative will benefit the entire NE region and intends to establish industrial-scale compressed biogas (CBG) plants and make it available for use as car fuel."
