Tezpur University Cancels Entrance Exams amid COVID-19 Crisis


On 7 July 2020 (Wednesday), Tezpur University issued an official notice recommending entrance exams to be dropped in view of the growing number of COVID cases in Assam. 

The university reported that admissions for the current academic year will be held based on the performance of students in previous qualifying exams 

Earlier, Tezpur University had scheduled to hold entrance exams from 20-31 May 2020. However, such plans could not be exercised due to state-wide lockdown subsequent to the pandemic situation.

About 1700 students are likely to be enrolled in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the university. 

As distressing times continue to prevail and uncertainty knows no bound, the university found it close to impossible for applicants, invigilators and concerned functionaries to reach exam centres.

Considering logistics and underlying safety risks behind conducting entrance exam for Tezpur University Admissions 2020, maintaining social distancing norms for large gatherings will be a tough job. 

The varsity will prepare a final merit list based on scores of applicants in their last qualifying exams. For students who applied earlier, now have to submit grade cards and mark sheets.

In case of different grading systems, students have to submit documents clarifying grades and the percentage calculation process involved.

The official notice reads, “The provision for online submission of mark sheets, grade cards and other relevant documents will be intimated to the candidates through messages to their registered mobiles or by email shortly. Last date for uploading the document is July 31, 2020.”

Earlier, the deadline had been extended till June 30 for online application. Such students will only be considered for admissions, this year.
