Tamil Nadu Universities Postpone Semester Exam 2022 Due to Rise in COVID-19 Cases; Read Details Here


New Delhi: Tamil Nadu universities have postponed the semester exams following the state government’s decision to postpone upcoming semester examinations for all students due to the upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the country. The announcement for exam delay was made by Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi on Monday, January 10, 2022. 

As per the announcement, the decision to postpone the level semester examination of Tamil Nadu Universities was made in consultation with Chief Minister M K Stalin. The semester exam was was earlier scheduled to hold from the third week of January 2022

In line with the decision, the Tamil Nadu state government has also decided to add restrictions in various activities in the state. The decision was made to prevent the further rise in Covid-19 positive cases in the state and ensure the safety of students and teaching staff. 

The revised schedule for the Tamil Nadu University examination is now expected to be released soon by the colleges and their respective universities. Students who were preparing to appear for the exam are now requested to keep a tab on the university website for latest exam updates.

TN Higher Education Minister: No Physical Classes to Be Held in Campus Due to COVID-19 

During a press meeting with Tamil Nadu CM, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi, the state government issued an official statement saying "All university exams are being deferred indefinitely due to the surging covid numbers. The revised schedule will be announced later." 

In addition to the postponement announcement, the Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu has also announced that no physical classes will be held on the campus. He further added that an official circular regarding the same has already been issued to Tamil Nadu Universities. 

As of now, many states have instructed colleges, universities, and education institutes not to commence any physical classes until further notice. The decision to stop physical activities on college campuses was made after the review of increasing Covid-19 cases in the country. 

TN Schools Closed for Class 1st to 9th Students, Classes to Resume Online

As for students of class 1st to 9th, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin has ordered the schools to resume online classes. While for students of class 10th to 12th, the classes will be held in offline mode, following strict Covid-19 restrictions, safety protocols, and SOPs. 

While talking about the decision made for schools, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister stated that as TN Board Exams 2022 are approaching for students of class 10th and 12th, it has been decided to resume physical classes for students after evaluating the present pandemic situation. 

Tamil Nadu Government is now planning on imposing a full lockdown in the state from January 16, 2022. The lockdown will be imposed in the state for various physical activities till January 31, 2022. 

Furthermore, the state has also extended the existing Covid-19 restrictions till the end of January 2022. The decision came after Tamil Nady recorded over 13,990 positive cases, 11 deaths in the last 24 hours (on Monday, January 10, 2022). 

Following the decision, night curfew and total lockdown will be imposed till January 31, 2022. Additionally, postponement of university exams and other mandatory actions have already been taken as per the situation requirements.
