New Delhi: As per the latest announcement, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore has appointed M M Murugappan as the new Chairman of the Board of Governors of the B-school. Following this, he will now work in the place of Deepak M Satwalekar for the next four years, from November 2022.
As per the statement made by the institute, Shri M M Murugappan, Chairman of Carborundum Universal Limited and newly appointed Chairman of the IIM Indore will join the institute for the next four years, starting from November 14, 2022.
From February 2018 to November 2020, Murugappan served as the executive chairman of the Murugappa Group Corporate Advisory Board. He also served as Chairman of the boards of both Murugappa Water Technology & Solutions and Cholamandalam Mitsui Sumitomo General Insurance Company Ltd.
Murugappan is working as a CEO of Cyient Ltd. in Hyderabad as well as a non-executive Director of Carson Cumberbatch (Sri Lanka). After holding multiple terms, he left the Mahindra & Mahindra board of directors in August 2020.
He supported numerous industry-academic alliances during his six years as a member of the IIT Madras board of governors, which ended in November 2011. He currently serves on the board of the IIT Madras Research Park and mentors numerous businesses that are housed there.
In addition to this, he is actively involved in creating many civic initiatives, particularly in the fields of education, health care, performing arts, and athletics, as a trustee of the Group's AMM Foundation.
Shri Murugappan completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the AC College of Technology, University of Madras, India, and his Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
Earlier, he also worked as a member of the American and Indian Institutes of Chemical Engineers and the Plastics & Rubber Institute. Following his achievements and work records, he was further elected a Fellow Member of the Indian Ceramic Society in 2006.
