New Delhi: Punjab Engineering College is planning to offer a certificate course in the field of Cyber Security to the Chandigarh police and other defense personnel. The course will be offered under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between PEC and Chandigarh Police.

Punjab Engineering College and Chandigarh Police have joined hands during the "Minutes of 95th meeting of Senate" held on December 22, 2021. The meeting was held in the presence of senate members, Punjab University officials, and other members.

The meeting was held at the Senate Hall, adjacent to the Director's Secretariat, PEC, Sector 12, Chandigarh under the direction of Dr. Baldev Setia, Director of PEC. The meeting included the discussions of necessary actions plans and reports of previous senate meetings.

PEC has directed the Cyber Security Research Center officials to start the preparation of the course structure and syllabus for the certificate program. Furthermore, the center will also assess the financial feasibility and fee structure of the same. 

PEC Program 2022 in Cyber Security will mainly focus on introducing participants to the areas of cyber security and handling big data. The program will include theoretical concepts as well as practical applications of the concepts in real-life problems. 

The senate meeting also discussed introducing new training programs and regular certificate programs in trending areas. The final approval on courses will be given by the Chairman of the Senate and the Director of PEC, Dr. Baldev Setia. 

Punjab Engineering College is now working on various aspects of the Certificate Course in Cyber Security and intends to launch the program soon for all interested applicants. PEC director Baldev Setia said, “we have agreed that we will release the course in due time.”

Earlier, the PEC has collaborated with the Chandigarh Administration and NASSCOM to establish a Cyber Security Research Center on the campus ground. The center was launched with initial funding of INR 3 crores for stakeholders and administrations. 

With the establishment of the PEC Cyber Security Research Center, the college aims to initiate various research and development projects in the field of cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, social media, and data analytics among others. 

In addition, PEC is also planning on revising the syllabus of its various M.Tech courses. The last revision and updates in the course curriculum were made in the 2018 session. With this, the college will include the latest trends, and major topics in the syllabus.
