Professor Bharat Bhaskar Appointed as IIM Ahmedabad Director

New Delhi: Professor Bharat Bhasker has been appointed as the director of the Indian Institute of Ahmedabad (IIMA). He has been appointed for a period of three years.

Shri Pankaj R Patel, Chairperson, Board of Governors IIM Ahmedabad has made the announcement.

Professor Bhasker, who formally held the position of Professor of Information Technology and Systems at IIM Lucknow, has taken charge as IIMA director on March 1, 2023, said an IIMA statement.

“It is a great honour and privilege to be appointed as director of country’s top most business school. I am really looking forward to this very important assignment,” said Professor Bhasker.

In the interim, the IIM-A Board of Governors has appointed Professor Arindam Banerjee as the director-in-charge from February 1 to 28, 2023. Making the announcement, Pankaj R Patel, chairperson, IIM-A Board of Governors, said, “IIM-A is renowned for its rich legacy as a premier global management institution, which has been shaped by the leadership and wisdom of all its directors since inception, including Professor Errol D’Souza. I would like to thank him for his outstanding contributions to the institute and its people during his tenure. I would like to congratulate and welcome Professor Bharat Bhasker as the new director of IIM-A.”

Pankaj R Patel, Chairperson, IIMA Board of Governors, said, “As a successful leader and a Professor of technology with experience of working in India and across the globe, I am confident that Professor Bhasker will carry forward the legacy and lead the institute to newer horizons.” Patel also thanked Prof D’Souza for his outstanding contributions to the Institute during his tenure.

The search cum selection committee, formed by the IIMA Board of Governors, had shortlisted 13 candidates for the top position. “Based on the committee’s recommendations, the Board of Governors announced the appointment of Prof Bharat Bhasker as the next Director for the institute, during a meeting held at the IIMA campus on Monday,” the statement added.
