Permanent Campus of IIT Ropar to be Virtually Inaugurated by Education Minister on Oct 22


The permanent campus of IIT Ropar will be virtually inaugurated by Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on October 22, 2020.

Along with the Education Minister, the Inauguration ceremony will be accompanied by the State Education Minister, Sanjay Dhotre.

Prof. Sarit K Das, Director of IIT Ropar will be giving the welcoming speech at the inauguration ceremony.

It will be followed by the address of Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and the state education minister Sanjay Dhotre. 

Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering departments will be shifted to the new permanent campus of IIT Ropar.

IIT Ropar: New Campus

The new campus of IIT Ropar has a built-up area of 1.37 lakh square meters with accommodation for 2,324 students, 170 faculty and 118 staff members, entrance, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, spaces for extra and co-curricular activities.

The institute is in process of completing 2.32 lakh square meters by 2021 with housing for 2,500 students, 220 faculty, and 250 staff members.

The construction of a 'Super Academic Block' is about to get completed in a total area of 4.76 lakh square meter to accommodate 7 academic departments.

By the winter of 2020, the Central library and auditorium with a seating capacity of 800 students will be ready.

IIT Ropar was established in the year 2008 and was ranked 25th in NIRF 2020 and QS India Rankings 2020 for Engineering institutions, and stood in between 351-400 brackets in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.
