Patna University News: Short Term Courses Attract more Scholars

In the wake of COVID-19 crisis, short-term courses offered by Patna University are gaining popularity by the day. Many students specifically from intermediate semesters are constantly eager to opt for such courses, officials of Patna University claim. 

According to Indiber Mukherjee, Director, Language Certificate Courses, Patna University, scores of students made enquiries on language proficiency courses that run for 6 months of durations. In most of the cases, intermediate year students are curious about such courses. 

Meanwhile, Patna University scheduled to conduct pending papers BA Exams from July 21. 

PU has been running several short term language courses for a while now. These are of 6 months duration in Bengali, Tamil, Chinese, German and French.

These courses will soon begin online classes for students who have enrolled for the same. Mukherjee further confirmed the last date for application is August 14.

Covid-19 crisis has given birth to disruptions in the education system and catapulted demand for such courses. At the same time, it has helped improvise some traditional methods as well. Latest updates suggest Patna University’s famed BLET and MLET 2020 postponed as application ends August 14. 

On-demand of local students, PU began a 6-months long certificate course on Basic English Language. As of now, the university offers 50 sanctioned seats for this program.

PU sources claim Vanijya Mahavidyalaya has also initiated an ad-on computerised accounting course for 6 months. This course is aimed at students pursuing higher education in commerce or management.

Magadh Mahila College (MMC), a subsidiary of Patna University has been offering certificate courses on IT skills like web development or graphic designing for quite some time. It also offers German and English certificate courses.

Meanwhile, MMC plans to launch a Japanese language course from the 2020 academic year. MMC also runs value-added courses on Madhubani painting, Block printing, Tikuli art and Jute art-craft, a majority of which are open for its alumni or students. 

As per Shashi Sharma, Principal, MMC, “All these courses are very popular as they fetch jobs. Admission to the newest course in Japanese, which was inaugurated by PU vice-chancellor H N Prasad last Saturday, will commence in July.”
