Odisha Government Establishes Centres to Develop Colleges; Detailed Report Here


The Odisha government has established an institutional mechanism centre to develop and promote higher education institutions across the state. 

According to the latest reports, the institutional mechanism is named as the District College Development Facilitation Centres (DCDFCs) to develop higher education institutions or Colleges in Orissa

Odisha Government Takes Measures for Development in Colleges 

As per the report, the Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra has instructed the district collectors to begin centres to address issues faced by the district colleges. 

A district-wise review of the centres was conducted by Mahapatra, who reported that the government's priority is to look after the development of the colleges, as a result of which the collectors must actively participate. 

According to the reports, the chief secretary directed the colleges during the review to scrutinize the following problems faced by the colleges such as, 

  • Implementation of the developmental project in the colleges quickly
  • Settlement of land in the name of a college 
  • Separation of plus 2 wing from degree colleges
  • Proper utilization of the government fund given under different schemes
  • Development of academic-ecosystem in the campus 

Collectors were also instructed to organize meetings with colleges to examine their problems and issues first-hand and give high priority to them accordingly, the report said.

Recently, the chief minister of the state, Naveen Patnaik announced the government's plan to set up a new medical college and hospital in Kandhamal district with 500 hospital beds. The Kandhamal medical college will intake a total of 100 students for the MBBS course. 

Earlier, the chief minister, Naveen Patnaik announced the development of 40 higher educational institutions across the state under the 5T transformation in the 1st phase. 

The CM envisioned saying that the college transformation programme will offer an amazing ambience and perfect tutoring & assistance to channelize the youthful vigor and irrepressible energy of the college goers. 

Orisha Schools to Remain Closed 

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has declared a holiday for schools across the state considering cyclone, JAWAD. 

IIFT Exams & UGC-NET 2021 Postponed 

Further, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) 2022 exam that was scheduled to be conducted on December 5. 

IIFT is conducted by the Odisha government for admission to MBA in International Business. The exam will not take place at the designated exam centres in Bhubaneshwar, Sambalpur, Cuttack in Odisha. 

However, the NTA will soon announce the revised date of IIFT 2022 for candidates who are admitted to exam centres in these cities. 

Moreover, the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) 2021, which was to be held today has been rescheduled to December 12, due to the cyclone, JAWAD in Odisha.
