President Ram Nath Kovind said that the National Education Policy is a well-planned roadmap that will help the government in promoting education in India. The policy will create an environment where young minds can be fueled with creativity.
The President made the remark while addressing the 5th Convocation at Central University of Kerala. The convocation event was held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Kasargode, in the Periya campus of the university.
President Ram Nath Kovind added that he has previously held a “NEP 2020” discussion meeting with Vice Chancellors of various central universities and directors of educational institutes.The discussion mainly revolved around NEP 2020 implementation in the country.
"The National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 is a well-thought-out blueprint for creating an environment that will nourish our youth's potential. The NEP strives to equip them with the best of our own traditions while also preparing them for the world of tomorrow," Kovind stated.
While highlighting the features and roles of National Education Policy 2020, he added that it aims to promote both inclusion and excellence in the field of education. Students will have new opportunities and options while pursuing their education.
“India is, after all, the land of Nalanda and Takshshila, of Aryabhata, Bhaskaracharya, and Panini. Gandhiji compared the indigenous educational system with a beautiful tree that perished under colonialism”.

The efforts are being made to help India rediscover its talent and best aspects. With this, The country will be able to make big contributions to the world, he further added.
In addition to the role of NEP 2020, President Kovind also shared that the Union Government of India has recommended three cities for being listed in the UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning.
The recommendation was made by the Union Government including Kerala, Thrissur, and Nilambur. With this addition, these cities will receive support and quality education facilities from UNESCO's Global Network of Learning.
“These two cities are Thrissur and Nilambur. Being part of this Global Network supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting life-long learning opportunities for all,” he said.
During Central University's 5th Convocation, President Kovind awarded three graduates with gold medals. The event was attended by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and State Local Self Government and Excise Minister M V Govindan.
