Most IITs Exceeded Allotted Seats Capacity; Only 6 to have Vacancies

New Delhi: 3,310 female candidates were allotted spots out of 16,635 total openings, according to information provided by the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2022 office at IIT Bombay, including those who were recalculated to account for extra seats.

16,635 seats have been allocated across the 23 IITs as of the end of the admissions season after six rounds of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling procedure, which finished last month. Statistics reveal that the cumulative seat allotment has exceeded the 16,598 capacity that was first stated at the beginning of the admissions process, despite the fact that a few openings remain in smaller IITs.

Out of 16,635 allotments, 3,310 are female applicants, including those who have been modified for supernumerary seats, according to information provided by the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2022 office at IIT Bombay. 102 seats have also been designated as candidates for preparation.

There are a few open seats at only six IITs: Jodhpur, Ropar, Dharwad, Jammu, (BHU) Varanasi, and (ISM) Dhanbad. The majority of other IITs have supplementary allocations, including Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, and Madras. The seat allocation at the end of the procedure is larger than the initially announced capacity, which is a usual pattern in IITs. This occurs as a result of circumstances like tie-breaking candidates, extra seats for overseas applicants, and other factors, according to an IIT Delhi expert.

66 candidates of foreign nationality have been given seats this year. IIT Bombay has the highest number of seats, 31 of them, while IIT Madras is a close second with 23 such candidates. IIT Bombay accepted 246 of the top 1,000 JEE Advanced qualified candidates, which is the highest number in the distribution. IIT Delhi comes in second with 210 applicants.
