Kerala MBBS Admission: 350 Private Seats Likely to be Transferred to AIQ; Check Details Here

New Delhi: As per sources, around350 MBBS general seats in 19 self-financing medical colleges in Kerala would most likely be transferred to the All India Quota (AIQ).

The Director of Medical Education (DME) in Kerala has written to the additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department to issue an order for the purpose of transferring 350 MBBS seats of 19 medical colleges in Kerala to AIQ.

The management of these colleges, however, has warned to intervene through legal resources, if the seats, deserved by the students from the state, are given to AIQ in the future. This issue can affect this year’s admission process as well.

The DME’s decision to transfer the seats came as an aftermath of the Supreme Court’s interim order in a plea filed by a private medical college managements association in 2019.

Besides the 15% Non-Residential (NRI) seats, all the private colleges have been instructed to assign 15% seats to the entrance exam commissioner for the purpose of being allotted on an All India basis. The entrance exam commissioner will allot these 15% seats for candidates from outside Kerala.

The DME letter explains that only a handful of colleges have obeyed this instruction despite the circular, issued by KUHS, Kerala and requested by the entrance exam commissioner.

On the other hand, MBBS and BDS candidates whose names were mentioned in the state rank list published by the Entrance Commissioner as per the NEET 2021, could apply for the first phase of choice filling option.

This was for the admission to the Undergraduate Medical Course. The scheduled date for the choice filling option in the state is January 29 and the first allotment date is set on February 2, 2022.
