Jammu and Kashmir LG Reviews Progress of AIIMS, IIT Jammu Projects


New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the progress of ongoing mega projects of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu and Jambu Zoo through camera-mounted drones via videoconferencing from his office at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu on January 30, 2022.

During the review meeting, the Lieutenant Governor was briefed about the physical and financial progress of the three projects happening at AIIMS Jammu, IIT Jammu and Jambu Zoo. 

During the meeting, Dr. Shakti Gupta, Director at AIIMS Jammu, has explained that approximately Rs. 1661 crore has been sanctioned for AIIMS Jammu, including Rs. 1452 crore for the construction purpose and Rs. 209 crore for the medical equipment and furniture. So far, works worth Rs. 1,253.78 crore, have been tendered. 

The phase 1 of this project includes hospital, medical college, nursing college, staff quarters, auditorium, student accommodation, Ayush building, night shelter and many more development works. 

Dr. Gupta further informed that the manpower stationed at the site has been enhanced manifold already for successfully completing the project within the scheduled time period. 

On the other hand, Dr. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director at IIT Jammu, has explained Rs. 1,283.94 crore has been sanctioned for the project related to the progress of the permanent campus. 

The Lieutenant Governor was further informed that the Home Minister has inaugurated the completed works under the Phase 1A and 1B already and the works under Phase 1C are in progress. 

Regarding the project at Jambu Zoo, the Lieutenant Governor was informed that among the funds of Rs. 62.41 crore, Rs. 49.17 crore has already been approved. 

Appropriately, the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) was approached for the approval of layout plants as required under certain provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Moreover, revised layout and animal enclosure designs were submitted already to the CZA seeking its approval. 

The phase 1 of the AIIMS Jammu project is expected to be completed by March 2021. The Jambu Zoo project phase 1 is to be completed by September 2023 while phase 1C of the IIT Jammu project is expected to be completed by April 2023.
