IIT Roorkee Join Hands with HESCO for Joint Training, Education, and Research


New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has signed an agreement with the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) for joint training programmes, education, and research. The agreement aims at improving rural infrastructure and promoting the livelihoods of rural communities.

IIT Roorkee will work together with HESCO for developing research ideas and projects for promoting rural development. They will work under the proposal of different government and non-government organizations for funding. 

Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), commented on the collaboration, “ The proposed collaboration between IIT Roorkee and HESCO will promote better management of water resources and targeted development of agriculture for the sustainable progress of rural communities in the Himalayan region.”

Dr Anil Joshi, Founder of HESCO, has also shared his views, “ HESCO is desirous and positive towards having association with IIT Roorkee. The knowledge generated by IIT Roorkee will be communicated by HESCO to empower community organization for socio-economic independence. It will be an exemplary association that will help develop participatory research on various community need technology like agriculture, water and sanitation, and energy for Himalayan rural communities.”  

IIT Roorkee HESCO Collaboration: Highlights 

The collaboration has aimed at the exchange of staff and students for joint research programmes. The students, faculty, and staff will get a wide exposure to knowledge exchange. 

The MoU also aims to organise workshops on Himalayan Sustainable Development. Both the organisations have planned for joint training programmes jointly on natural issues such as water resource management, drinking water security, livelihood security, natural hazards, agricultural development, climate change, and many more. 

IIT Roorkee HESCO collaboration is a leading example of developing rural communities and technology for the welfare and socio-economic development of community organisations. 

In other news, IIT Roorkee has completed the admission process for Ph.D programs, the regular classes for first year students will start from July 26, 2022 onwards.
