Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee conducted a two-day workshop between December 18 and 19 to motivate school students to pursue careers in the science and technology field.
As per the IIT Roorkee statement, in order to commemorate India's 75th independence, the institute organised a workshop under the aegis of Vigyan Pradarshani by the department of biosciences and biomedical engineering, IIT Roorkee.
Nearly 50 students from Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, Haryana, along with two teachers participated in IIT Roorkee's workshops.
The head department of Biosciences and Bioengineering started the workshop by welcoming and addressing the gathering. It was then followed by the faculty’s lectures and the school student's interaction with IITians at the campus.

One of the students who visited the workshop shared his experience saying that the workshop gave an idea to decide the subjects in Class 11.
As per the IIT Roorkee statement, one of the participants got emotional with the researcher's commitment and hard work that was put in the workshop and said that it's the best thing to pursue degrees from IITs.
While another student was highly inspired after the interactive session at TIDES and shared to start own startup to hire IITians.

The workshop organised by IIT Roorkee was a part of the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative developed by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST) along with the IIT Roorkee.
Speaking about the importance of the programme, Pravindra Kumar, head of the department of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering elucidated that the area of science and technology are highly interdisciplinary and in the future, the progress of India and humankind is in the hands of the present generation.
Manish Shrikhande, the dean of sponsored research and industrial consultancy, IIT Roorkee said that students should inculcate a habit of loving science and technology at an early as it will produce innovative thinkers in future, which is an integral requirement for the progress of India in today's fast-paced world.
Further, workshops like this are great means to introduce school students to an amazing world of science and technology, that will also develop their outlook to pursue a career in this domain, Shrikhande added.
