New Delhi: IIT Roorkee and Save Life Foundation (SLF) has signed a MoU on January 28, 2022, to expand the effective implementation and measurement of the road safety projects across India.
The MoU was signed by Piyush Tewari, the Founder and CEO of Save Life Foundation and Professor Manish Shrikhande, Dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, IIT Roorkee.
Referring to the event, Piyush Tewari explained how the collaboration with IIT Roorkee will enable the organisation to develop more effective solutions.
“As we scale up our Zero-Fatality Corridor model to dozens of highways across India in partnership with the Government of India, our collaboration with IIT-Roorkee will enable us to develop innovative solutions to peculiar road safety challenges and help develop more talent in this space for a better and safer tomorrow”, Tewari further added.
Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director at the IIT Roorkee also explained how this partnership with the SLF will enable both the institution and the organisation to make more impactful interventions related to road safety. This way, IIT Roorkee will also be able to expand its perspective on the issue.

IIT Roorkee MoU with SLF: Impacts
Here are some of the possible goals and impacts of the signed MoU between IIT Roorkee and SLF:
- Covering implementation and impact assessment of SLF’s on-ground projects
- Collaborating on the research studies
- Providing knowledge sessions and training students and scholars in the current road safety practises
SLF’s ‘Zero-Fatality Corridor’ project has been recognised for reducing over 50 percent deaths caused by the road accidents on the National Highway 48 in Maharashtra and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
During the signing event, eminent faculties of IIT Roorkee such as Professor Manoranjan Panda, Deputy Director, Professor S K Ghosh, Head of Civil Engineering Department, Professor Indrajit Ghosh, Civil Engineering Department were also present along with Dr. Roshan Jose, Senior Manager Projects, SLF Foundation.
Recently, IIT Roorkee’s team of researchers led by Professor Dharmendra Singh, won the National Gold Award for ‘Outstanding Research on Citizen-Centric Services by Academic/ Research Institutions’.
The research team bagged the award for the development of E-waste based Microwave Absorbing Material for Electromagnetic Shielding and Stealth Applications.
