IIT Patna signs an MoU with Flipkart to create industry-focused applied research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
The collaboration focuses on providing an opportunity to the faculty members of IIT Patna to work closely with Flipkart and thus give industry exposure to the students.

Expressing views on the collaboration, Chief Data Scientist of Flipkart Mayur Datar said, "The aim behind the collaboration is to create industry-focused applied research which will help e-commerce to reach more consumers and sellers. We aim to establish deeper academia collaborations that could help students and faculty to leverage our data to work on India specific e-commerce challenges."
Before IIT Patna, Flipkart had already been working closely with some premier institutes like IIT Kharagpur, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kolkata, IISC, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur and international universities like University of California and Carnegie Mellon University.
Computer Science Prof. Asif Ekbal, IIT Patna added that the research is aimed at developing robust machine translation so as to transfer user reviews written in English to Indian vernacular languages.
