IIT Madras Collaborates with Corporates to Promote Technology-Driven CSR; Read Details Here


December 21, 2021: As per the latest updates, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is collaborating with top industry and corporate firms. With this collaboration, the institute aims to be in the core of Technology-Driven CSR activities in the country. 

As of now, the IIT Madras has collected a fund of around INR 200 crore for its Core Technology-Driven CSR projects. The funds have been raised from over 140 leading corporations from around the country. 

Following the partnership, the institute also organized a meetup, ‘Explore and Grow- CSR Partnerships’ in Mumbai. The event was held to discuss the trends of CSR in India and the use of technology in everyday sectors.

Top corporate leaders from various industries took part in the event. The event panels included discussion sessions by the IITM Faculty members as well as industry leaders on various socially relevant projects.

The discussion panel expressed their ideas on issues related to affordable healthcare and sustainable urban infrastructure development. The event also explored solutions to solve real-world problems and revolutionize the Edu-skilling space. 

Referring to the initiative, Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Corporate and Alumni Affairs), IIT Madras said, “IIT Madras is excited to partner with Corporate India on this exciting journey of creating Indian-origin solutions to the world’s problems".

"We are very proud of our students and our alumni who are vested in developing technologies that will transform tomorrow’s India. IIT Madras is solving tomorrow’s problems" he further added. 

With the aim of becoming the CSR hub in India, the IIT Madras has recently signed an MoU with Tata Power. The collaboration was done to improve the overall research and development training on the campus and find tech solutions. 

Under this partnership, the IIT Madras is now working jointly with Tata Power on research and development (R&D), consultancy, policy advocacy, advisory, training, and commercialization of technologies and solutions among other sectors. 

While talking about the collaboration with Tata Power, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, said: “IIT Madras is delighted to partner with Tata Power to pursue research in topics of mutual interest and national importance and provide opportunities for employees to acquire advanced knowledge in emerging areas".

Industrial Collaborations Bring 43% Increase in Offers at IIT Madras Placements 2022

As a result of these impactful industrial collaborations, the institute reserves best records in its placement drives. As per IIT Madras Placements 2022 Report, there has been a 43% increase in the placements. The institutes also marked an increasing number of Pre-Placement offers accounting to 231 PPOs as on November 5, 2021 which is the highest in the last 5 years.

Some of the top recruiters were, namely, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Honeywell, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs and many others participated in the placement drive.
