IIT Madras Startup GUVI Partners with AICTE to Offer Free Python, AI Courses for Disadvantaged Students


IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad-incubated startup GUVI has partnered with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to offer free python and artificial intelligence (AI) upskilling courses. 

IIT Madras's python programming and AI courses will be offered for free of cost to more than one million socially and economically disadvantaged Indian students. 

According to the IIT Madras statement, the free python programming and advanced Artificial intelligence courses will be offered in various vernacular languages such as Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, including English, among others. 

Free access to the course will be available through the registration process enabled on GUVI website @www.guvi.in. 

Participants of the course will also receive an IIT Madras certificate on the GUVI python programming course if they sit for an assessment and pay the prescribed fee to IIT Madras. 

Further, the AICTE has decided to distribute free edtech coupons to all the students whose annual family income is less than INR 8 lakh. These coupons will be shared via the NEAT portal and the GUVI website. 

Recently, IIT Madras invited online applications for a free online course on Python for Data Science for the January 2022 session. Interested candidates can apply for the free course by visiting the NPTEL, Swayam platform, @onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in. 

The thoughtful vision of Ms Sridevi Arunprakash, Co-founder of GUVI, aligns with the NEAT objectives to bring the best technological products in education pedagogy through a single platform for the learner's convenience. 

Speaking about the collaboration and IIT Madras's initiative to offer free courses, Arun Prakash, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, GUVI, said that the main aim is to bestow the best employable skills on Indian youths, coinciding with the aims of NEAT.

The Python programming and AI course offered through this collaboration will stand as a significant support for the deserving students, allowing them to grow and excel in their career, Prakash added. 

Buddha Chandrasekhar, chief coordinating officer for NEAT-AICTE, identified the IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad incubated startup, GUVI for its quality parameters that comes in line with the objectives of NEAT 3.0, enabling outcome-based education.

GUVI co-founder S P Balamurugan said that the collaboration with AICTE has widened the availability of edtech resources for students towards better upskilling online. 

The Python programming and Artificial Intelligence skills included in the initiative will focus on the face recognition technology that any beginner can master with a strong determination, Balamurugan added. 

During the launch of the NEAT 3.0 (National Educational Alliance for Technology - AICTE) in New Delhi on January 3, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan appreciated startups like GUVI for its contribution in the distribution of free edtech coupons as part of the NEAT 3.0. 

Recently, the Ministry of Education’s innovation cell released the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021, where IIT Madras secured the first rank as the most innovative educational institute for the third time in a row. 

While IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi stood at the second and third ranks as the most innovative educational institutes in India.
