New Delhi: IIT Madras Research Park and Saint-Gobain India signed an MoU on February 10 2022, Thursday to create a renewable energy research park.
Saint-Gobain India will provide Rs 1 crore to the Research Park of IIT Madras over the next three years in order to accelerate the development of a low carbon future and help India achieve 100 % renewable energy.
P Padmakumar, executive director – HR and Head-CSR, Saint-Gobain India said, “The partnership is an endeavour to support the institute’s purpose of ensuring 100% use of renewable energy sources and the model will be developed within the span of three years by the institute”.
The cooperation will concentrate on tackling energy concerns, promoting the greatest use of alternative energy sources, and developing sustainable models to assure energy efficiency.
IIT Madras Research Park seeks to build a strong energy storage system within the campus that will allow it to run primarily on renewable energy.
If successful, the technique might help show the technological capability and financial viability of moving to 100% renewable energy in commercial premises.
The collaboration aims to use the IIT Madras Research Park campus as a model for future commercial building complexes throughout the country. The model's pilot demonstration will be built within the institute over a three-year period.
“We are committed to drive this transition towards Net-Zero Energy in India and aim to showcase the IIT Madras Research Park campus as a model for other commercial building complexes in the country to adopt as they shift towards renewable energy-based system,” Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala, president, IIT Madras Research Park and IIT Madras Incubation Cell stated.
