IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022 Registration Ongoing for Internship, Apply till Feb 4; Check Details Here

New Delhi: IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022 registration has begun for internships. Due to the third wave of COVID-19 (Omicron), the program will be held completely in online mode. 

Under the Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE) internship program 2022, students from IIT Kanpur and other participating institutions undertake a short duration of internship. 

The IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022 internship program focuses on research projects and pushes the students' intellectual abilities beyond those driven by the classroom. Duration of SURGE 2022 is approximately 8 weeks, which is tentatively scheduled to be conducted between May 13, 2022 and July 14, 2022. 

The participants of SURGE 2022 Internship program who produce exceptional quality research during the period will receive an award and a commendation certificate. 

After four weeks, the SURGE participants will be asked to give a mid-term presentation to the review committee consisting of a group of academic staff members of IIT Kanpur. The review committee members will give feedback and suggest possible improvements in the research work.

Candidates interested in applying for the SURGE 2022 internship program will have to deposit a non-refundable fee of INR 500, while submitting their online application form.

IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022: Eligibility Criteria for Other Countries 

Following eligibility criteria are for the students from other countries who are interested in applying for the summer internship, SURGE 2022  at IIT Kanpur. 

• Candidates must be pursuing B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS degree (3rd year completed)
• Candidates should be studying five-year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
• A five-year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
• Candidates from B.Sc./B.A courses (2nd year completed)

IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022: Eligibility Criteria for Non-IITK students

Even the Non-IIT Kanpur students can apply for internships under this scheme. The eligibility criteria for the non-IITK students at the start of the internship are as follows, 

• Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed)
• A five-year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
• a B.Sc./B.A. (2nd year completed)
• 2-Year MSc(1st year completed)

At the time of internship start, the following eligibility criteria will be applied to IITK students, 

• Tech/B.Sc(2nd,3rd year completed),
• Dual Degree (2nd, 3rd, 4th year)
• 2-Year MSc(1st year)

IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022: How to Apply? 

All the eligible candidates will have to register online for the SURGE 2022 internship program via the official  website.

Step 1: Register for SURGE 2022

Interested candidates can register using the web portal link and select their category and apply online for the program accordingly. 

There are three categories:

• IITK: Candidates from IITK are only eligible to apply in this category. 

• NON-IITK: Only Indian students of different Indian institutions can apply from this category. 

• SAARC: All the NON-Indian (Nepal, Bhutan) students can apply under this category. 

Step 2: Fee deposit & Upload documents 

All the candidates will have to mandatorily pay the non-refundable application fee of INR 500. They can complete the registration process in step by step procedure by uploading all their essential documents. 

Post the submission of application, candidates will receive an email confirming the successful completion of the online application form, along with the Application Number. In case, the candidate needs to contact the authority regarding the SURGE 2022, they can provide the application number.

If the mentor/recommender wishes to keep the confidentiality of the mentor/ recommender certificate, they can send the pdf file of the relevant certificate together with the participant's Application number to surge@iitk.ac.in. 

Candidates should that the institute will reject the applications that are incomplete or incorrect.

IIT Kanpur SURGE 2022: Benefits for Participants

• Students selected for SURGE-funded institutes will be paid a stipend of INR 12,500- during the program.
• Students selected for any IIT Kanpur project, will be funded by faculty members of IIT Kanpur.
• Self-funded students will be given the opportunity to work on IITK faculty members project but they will not be entittled for any funding.
• IIT Kanpur students selected under Industry-IITK tie-up, will be able to work individually or in teams on real-world projects proposed by industry mentors and from IIT Kanpur. Stipend will be paid by the industry.
