IIT Jodhpur Sets Up Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering; Read Details Here


New Delhi: IIT Jodhpur has established its new Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering on the campus. The department will aim to offer training to students in designing large-scale infrastructures that are smart, sustainable, and climate change resilient.

As per IIT Jodhpur, the department has been established to integrate multiple engineering and science verticals through which it will provide holistic solutions to civil and infrastructure engineering problems. It will offer a BTech program in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering to students. 

Through the IIT Jodhpur BTech program, the department will encourage students to learn about various specializations of smart infrastructure, energy, and the environment. The program will commence in 4 years and is open to all interested candidates who meet the eligibility criteria. 

Students will have the opportunity to convert their BTech program into a dual degree BTech-MTech program and complete the course in a duration of five years. The dual degree course will be offered either in the field of energy or environment. 

Informing about the program, the officials stated that the BTech program offered by the newly established department of IIT Jodhpur is the first program in country that offers two dedicated groups of high-demand courses, Infrastructure Engineering and Smart Infrastructure Systems.

With this, the institute aims to give students the option to gain advanced training in transformative technologies and more profound research experience. The department also offers two MTech and MTech-PhD programs in various areas of specialisation. 

Under the MTech and MTech-PhD programs, interested candidates can apply for infrastructure Engineering with a specialisation in Energy and Infrastructure Engineering with a specialisation in Environmental Engineering. For more details about the admission process, visit iitj.ac.in.

Dr. Ranju Mohan, Head of Department at IIT Jodhpur, said, “Our aim is to produce next-generation engineers through adaptive, flexible, and interdisciplinary training programs rooted through cohesive interaction with research organizations, academicians, and industries”. 

“The curriculum of our programs is aligned with this aim. Through ongoing collaborations, faculties aim to create a co-creation platform that enables multiple players /stakeholders in civil and infrastructure firms to bring solutions for various societal issues under a common store” he added.
