IIT Hyderabad Launches MA in Health, Gender and Society; Apply by April 3, 2022

New Delhi: IIT Hyderabad has introduced a full-time MA program in Health, Gender and Society in the Department of Liberal Arts. This interdisciplinary program has been launched to aid in innovative and rigorous research in the field of Health and Gender in contemporary India.

Prof. BS Murty, Director, IIT, Hyderabad said, ‘This two year MA course will create human resources to serve our ever-evolving and developing society and set benchmarks in the field of developmental studies.’

The main aim of this program is to provide a detailed understanding of the infrastructure, policies and health system in India and their impact on gender and family. 

The program also includes a dissertation and internship component. This will enable students to engage with industry experts and easily access global and contemporary research.

IIT Hyderabad MA Health, Gender and Society: Eligibility & Selection Process

Interested candidates can apply for this course by filling in the online form available on the official website of IIT-Hyderabad (iith.ac.in). 

Applicants who have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in a bachelor’s degree in social sciences are eligible to apply for this course. Candidates who are in their final year of graduation and early career professionals with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences are also eligible.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for a written test and an interview for admission to this program in June 2022.

Prospective candidates can follow the steps below to apply for this program - 

Step 1: Select the link for MA admission from the official homepage of IIT Hyderabad.

Step 2: Visit the MA Admissions Portal and click on the registration link 

Step 3: Enter details like Login ID, email address, and password to complete the registration process

Step 4: Log in to the online application system using the email address and password provided during registration.

Step 5: Select the link ‘click here to apply’ to access the online form and choose the department offering the program

Step 6: Verify the information entered and then click on the ‘Submit Application’ button.

Step 7: Pay the application fee (INR 500 for Male general/OBC/EWS and INR 200 for SC/ST/PH/Female).

After submission, take a printout of the application form as it will be required during the day of the written test/interview.

While commenting on the need for this course, Dr Shubha Ranganathan, head of the Department, Liberal Arts, IIT Hyderabad said, ‘This course will provide a fertile environment for nurturing creativity, critical thinking and curiosity so as to enable the young minds to find solutions to social problems in the area of health and gender. We train our students to build relations with institutions that are engaged in ground-level work on problems related to health and Gender.’
