IIT Hyderabad Introduces Swarajability; Develops AI Triggered Job Portal for Differently-abled; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) has collaborated with Youth4jobs and Kotak Mahindra Bank and introduced a unique platform, Swarajability, that has developed an artificial intelligence triggered Job portal for differently-abled persons.

IIT Hyderabad has launched Swarajability as a platform that will benefit persons with disabilities like hearing impairment, visual impairment, and locomotive disorders.

Principal Scientific Advisor Professor Vijaya Raghavan inaugurated Swarajability, which is the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) triggered job platform for disabled individuals.

Swarajability has been developed for both web and mobile versions for maximum reach. It will analyze the available information and recommend the required training needed for the concerned jobseeker.

Several organisations with different competencies have come together for this high-impact and important project.

IIT Hyderabad (IITH) will offer its expertise for the AI component; whereas the developer of the portal is Visual Quest India and Youth4Jobs will add its rich experience in skilling, disability, and job linkages.

In addition, Kotak Mahindra Bank has funded this initiative. According to the reports, there are a total of 21 million persons with disabilities in India, of whom more than 70 per cent of them were unemployed/ underemployed.

The Right to PwD Act 2016 for the first time points out the right of a person with a disability (PwD) to education and employment and provides PwDs with an opportunity to get skilled and linked to jobs available.

However, one of the significant challenges they face is that most of the existing platforms are inaccessible and not customised to the required needs of persons with disabilities.

The importance of creating the Swarajability platform is that if the country is to meet its demographic dividend, the most vulnerable, like individuals with disabilities, should be skilled and linked to sustainable opportunities. With the help of technology, it can be facilitated and ensured that no differently-abled individual is left behind.

Prof. B.S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, congratulated the entire workforce for carrying out the glorious and noble endeavour in a brief interval. He also wished that the Swarajability portal would be beneficial to a big part of those PwDs needing such a platform.

Earlier, this week, IIT Hyderabad has decided to launch the Suzuki Innovation Center on its campus ground in collaboration with the Japanese company, Suzuki Motor Corporation. The innovative centre will work as a joint platform for both organizations to share knowledge.
