IIT Hyderabad & SVYRI Launches MRD Heritage Research Fellowships; Details Here


New Delhi: IIT Hyderabad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Visweswara Yoga Research Institute (SVYRI) to launch the Mahayogini Rajyalakshmi Devi Heritage Research Fellowships for PhD in Heritage Science and Technology.

As per IIT Hyderabad, interested candidates who wish to apply for the fellowship program can contact the office at office@hst.iith.ac.in for more details. The application process for interested and eligible candidates is open year-round but will be processed 2 times a year. 

Candidates having a valid GATE score and a master's degree such as MTech, ME, or MSc (Engineering/Technology) degree in the relevant or related fields, or a BTech degree or MSc in related fields are eligible to apply for Mahayogini Rajyalakshmi Devi Heritage Research Fellowships.

The Department of Heritage Science and Technology (HST) at IIT Hyderabad will accept proposed research in any area of Science and Technology, as applied to intangible or tangible Indic heritage, such as yoga, Ayurveda, music, dance, language, arts, architecture or sculpture.

Informing about the fellowship, IIT Hyderabad Director, B.S. Murty said, "Robust, empirically quantifiable research in the frontier areas of heritage assets will create strong commercial interest in Indic resources such as Ayurveda, yoga etc".

"It is important to perform research of the highest quality and publish in well-regarded fora, and IIT-H will strive to create a benchmark in the area of heritage research", he added.

Under the MRD scholarship, shortlisted candidates will get a monthly increased fellowship of Rs. 75,000 in addition to travel expenses to an international conference among other benefits. Applicants must note that those who do not meet the required eligibility criteria will not be considered for the fellowship program.

Department Head Mohan Raghavan informed, "We believe the launch of the MRD-Heritage Research fellowship is going to be a key enabler by attracting top talent to work on topics related to science and technology in the area of heritage and take it to the next level".
