New Delhi: IIT Guwahati Director welcomes the new Union Budget 2022 as presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 2, 2022.

Praising the Union Budget 2022, T G Sitharam, Director at the IIT Guwahati explained how this is related to IIT Guwahati. From 1-class-1 TV, digital university, startups to digital services for the farmers- this budget has touched upon many such initiatives.

“IIT Guwahati will execute projects in a majority of the initiatives introduced under the Union Budget 2022. The announcement of incentives for startups to extend the period of incorporation by one more year will help in the promotion of startups”, he added to his statement. 

Institutes like IIT Guwahati have been developing startups and promoting technology incubations during the COVID 19 pandemic that boosted the economic growth of the entire country. During the speech, the Finance Minister also discussed the significance of agri education. Emphasizing on the need to revise the syllabus of agricultural universities, the FM explained that this to meet the requirements of natural, zero-budget & organic farming and modern-day agriculture.

In relation to this, an official statement released by IIT Guwahati explains how the institute can be benefitted from this. The campus has established a school for agro and rural technology along with a centre for drone technology to help the farmers.

In relation to the establishment of 5 academic institutions as Centres for Excellence for urban planning, the Director has explained how the North-East region remains one of the major regions where urbanisation is occurring rapidly. Therefore, setting up such Urban Planning Centre for Excellence as part of the curriculum will provide a required boost to the institution. 

As per the official statement, the institute has also been providing the students several health programmes related to their physical and psychological well-being. IIT Guwahati has further appreciated the introduction of the ‘National Tele-Mental Health Programme’ in collaboration with NIMHANS and IIIT Bangalore
