IIT Gandhinagar Gets World Class Laboratory for Passive Fire System Testing

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar has recently inaugurated the "Shah Bhogilal Jethalal Laboratory for Passive Fire System Testing" to advance research and development in the nation's fire safety sector.

As per IIT Gandhinagar, the Shah Bhogilal Jethalal Laboratory for Passive Fire System Testing has received support for the establishment from Mukesh Shah, managing partner of Ahmedabad-based Shah Bhogilal Jethalal & Bros (AAAG India).

With this, the institute plans to expand the Center for Safety Engineering's activities, putting a particular focus on fire safety engineering. The lab will aim for developing and enhancing labs, teach classes, recruit renowned scholars to serve as visiting professors, and plan seminars, conferences, or other activities.

As per the officials, the new lab will be accredited by international standards agencies and help Indian manufacturers meet high requirements for designing and producing goods that are globally regarded as acceptable. This initiative will also support the ideas of "Make in India" in this industry.

Following thorough the testing of building components, the new lab will contribute to improving fire safety in high-rise structures, airports, metro rail, and other infrastructure projects. It can test items up to a 3x3 metre specimen size, including fire doors, walls, dampers, horizontal through penetration firestops, and more.

In addition to this, IIT Gandhinagar has hosted the Indian Conference on Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing (ICVGIP) from December 8 to December 10, 2022 on its campus ground.

The IIT Gandhinagar's 13th conference included discussions and presentations on cutting-edge fields of computer vision, graphics, and image processing, and will draw in over 300 participants from India and overseas, including students, faculty members, and industry specialists.
