IIT Delhi Unit FITT Signs MoU with Flipkart for Joint Research in the Field of Social Commerce


New Delhi: IIT Delhi's Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Flipkart for joint research in the field of social commerce on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Under this collaboration between Flipkart and IIT Delhi, both parties will work closely on research projects focused on solving latest challenges in the field of e-commerce. Flipkart will offer research grants and market insights to FITT to design prototypes in the marketing domain. 

As a part of MoU, Flipkart and IIT Delhi's FITT will publish several research papers related to areas of areas of social commerce, product recommendation to resellers, and the consumer product exploration journey, the officials stated. 

In addition to finding solutions and improving overall marketing strategies, the Flipkart and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer will also contribute to conducting conference travel grants and organizing mentorship opportunities for students of IITD. 

Flipkart will also provide various internship opportunities to IIT Delhi PG, UG Course 2022 students. Under the internship programs, students will be able to closely evaluate the working of one of the fastest-growing e-commerce domains in India. 

While talking about the MoU, Mayur Datar, Chief Data Scientist at Flipkart, said, “As an organization committed to solving for India, we have developed numerous industry-first capabilities over the years and continue to push the boundaries to bring customer delight”.

“In this endeavor, we are pleased to partner with IIT Delhi to co-develop capabilities that play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the future of social commerce. This will also provide an opportunity to the students, scholars, and professors to gain real-world expertise and build innovative solutions that lead to ecosystem development,” he added.

Adding to the statement, Flipkart said that it has been working towards forming academic relationships with top universities in India for the past five years. The officials added that the collaborations will bring forth India-specific solutions in various domains.

It has earlier joined hands with some of the leading institutes of India, i.e, the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), IIIT Hyderabad, IITs, (Kharagpur, Patna, Bombay, and Kanpur), and IIMs (Ahmedabad and Kolkata).

Additionally, Flipkart has also worked with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California, San Diego on various ongoing industry-academic collaboration programs.
