IIT Bombay Announces the e-Yantra Innovation Contest: Winners Will Receive 1 Crore in Seed Capital

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, has started the e-Yantra Innovation Challenge to find solutions for inclusive urban infrastructure. It is a robotics outreach program called e-Yantra that assists young engineers in finding technological solutions to challenges.

At IIT Bombay e-Yantra Innovation Contest, a prize pool of Rs 1 crore will be provided as seed money to the winning teams that make it through the pitching round. Additionally, there are prizes totaling 25 lakhs up for grabs. Interested groups can apply at eyic.e-yantra.org. Candidates can sign up for this innovation challenge until September 25, 2022

An annual e-Yantra Innovation Challenge (eYIC) allows student teams to take MOOCs to get essential skills before having them work in teams to address problems from the real world and create enterprises. Since its inception in 2014, e-Innovation Yantra's Challenge has attracted an average of 2000 students yearly.

The four steps of the innovation challenge are as follows:

Stage 1: is a training sprint when participants are introduced to the topic, trained in technologies, and assisted in articulating issues through instruction in MOOCs and in-person discussions with specialists.

Stage 2: Teams participate in a prototyping sprint during the next phase to create a working model of the proposed solution under the guidance of an e-Yantra mentor.

Stage 3: In this phase, an innovation sprint, e-Yantra works to create a pitch for an incubator—in this case, the IIT Bombay Incubator SINE—by providing support.

In the final phase, an implementation sprint, teams polish their Proof-of-concept (PoC) under the direction of e-Yantra mentors. For the Finals at IIT Bombay, e-Yantra provides the necessary tools, instruction, and support, as well as a travel stipend and boarding/lodging.

The CSE department of IIT Bombay is home to the e-Yantra project, which the Ministry of Education supports the Government of India. Sustainable and Advanced Technologies for Supporting Urban Inclusivity and Agriculture are this year's themes. People with disabilities (PWD), who make up roughly 2.2% of our population (30 million people), are catered to through inclusivity in this context because they are left behind in less inclusive metropolitan environments.
