IIT-BHU Hackathon to Seek Ideas in Health Tech Sectors


New Delhi: IIT Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) is all set to host a national level hackathon titled, ‘I-DAPT Health-tech hackathon’ for school and college students of diverse disciplines. 


The key idea of IIT-BHU in organising the national-level hackathon is to boost innovative ideas in the health-tech and allied sectors. The hackathon is scheduled to be held from June 13 to 15.

The ‘I-DAPT Health-tech hackathon’ is open to all the students studying in schools and colleges irrespective of their age, courses, and specialisations. 

Speaking about the I-DAPT Health-tech hackathon, IIT-BHU director Professor Pramod Kumar Jain said that the primary aim of organising this hackathon is to engage young innovative minds to think, design and develop innovative solutions for modern-age problems in health-tech or med-tech sectors. 

He said that the participants should note that the winners and runner-ups can win up to INR 1.7 lakh in total cash prizes along with free internship opportunities at IIT-BHU. 

In the last couple of years, there's been enormous technological advancements in technology in the Healthcare sector. Today, there's easier access to easy-to-use and accessible medical devices, driven by technologies like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, blockchain, etc, he said.

He added that these technologies allow patients and their caretakers to make decisions regarding management and treatment of diseases. The I-DAPT Health-tech hackathon will nurture the young mindsets of Indian youths towards these technology developments. 

He directed that the combined intervention of technology and Entrepreneurship have resulted in affordability, accessibility, quality, and efficiency to the health and medical sectors. 

Further, he said that PM Narendra Modi also emphasized that access, availability and awareness of tech-powered medicine will make India Atma Nirbhar in the healthcare sector. 

In the testing times of Covid-19 pandemic, the country witnessed how digital technologies like tele-medicines and medical analytics played an indispensable role in timely prediction and management of diseases, he added. 

He concluded by saying that artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosis and drug development, mental health, telemedicine and remote care, augmented reality in healthcare, IoT and wearables, bioprinting are some of the trending research areas for the future of healthcare sector.

Commenting about the Hackathon, Dean (R&D) Professor Vikash Kumar Dubey said that with the increasing national and global demand in the health infrastructure, the healthcare sector will stand as one of the most employable sectors. As a result, Hackathons like I-DAPT Health-tech will foster and attract young minds to seek careers in healthcare and allied sectors. 

Organising Secretary of the Hackathon, Dr. Pranjal Chandra said that the interested students can apply for the I-DAPT Health-tech hackathon in two different categories, that is in the first category, the school students upto class 12th are eligible to apply. Whereas in the second category, UG and PG students from Science, Engineering, and Medical specializations can apply. 

Interested candidates can visit the online portal of IIT BHU and submit their applications for the hackathon event till May 11, 2022.
