IIM Kozhikode has opened up the Centre for Digital Innovation and Transformation (CDiT) to encourage and coordinate interdisciplinary research in new digital technologies.

Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest for the virtual inauguration celebration on Wednesday. In his inauguration speech, Gopalakrishnan commended IIM Kozhikode on the initiative and expressed the hope that, given the centre is at the crossroads of academic and industrial activity, the industry will become an active participant in its operations.

He also urged the centre to strive for excellence in order to develop long-term business concepts and develop products via core research activities that benefit people and society.

Laying out seven major milestones for the centre he said, “The growth model of this century will be founded on innovation and not on consumption. India will lead the world in innovation in the 21st century and this is bound to be India’s century.”

Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIM Kozhikode and Patron of the Centre, praised the efforts of the team that put together the centre and stated that this endeavour of delivering digital transformation will give IIMK's objective to go global a huge boost.

“Sustainability should be at the core of all transformation and the world today is moving from consumption to innovation and from producing to caring,” he further stated.

IIM-Kozhikode was a pioneer in digital outreach, being the first business school in Asia to run interactive distance learning (IDL) style programs for working executives using satellite delivery systems (later by dedicated internet), the first of its type in Asia back in 2001.

At an age and time when the government initiatives like Digital India are transforming the society, IIM Kozhikode’s Centre for Digital Innovation and Transformation will promote and coordinate interdisciplinary research in emerging digital technologies, added Prof. R Radhakrishna Pillai, Head CDiT.
