New Delhi: Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), Bangalore has joined hands with the Government of Assam to offer the Chief Minister's Young Professional Programme (CMYPP) for the academic session 2023-25.
In an effort to bring transformative changes in health, education, women's empowerment, and child development, an MoU was signed between IIM Bangalore and Assam government in this regard, in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Samir Kumar Sinha, principal secretary to the chief minister, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the government of Assam, and Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, signed it on behalf of that institution.
Under this collaboration, the institute will aim to create a cadre of dedicated and capable leaders and facilitators to support governmental administration. This will be achieved through the Chief Minister's Young Professional Program, which will be offered from session 2023-25.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the day as being of great significance in Assam's administrative history. This MoU would have enormous potential for the state's overall growth.
This collaboration represents the first time that a system of this kind of cutting-edge support has been created to help the district administration enhance programme delivery in the designated sectors.
Congratulating IIM Bangalore, he said that this will greatly enhance the delivery of services to the state's citizens. Assam and other northeastern states had made developments in many fields under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.
He added, the people now have new hope, energy, and force thanks to the prime minister's vision for the region's growth and development.
Further, he added that Assam's Gross State Domestic Products (GSDP) have doubled over the previous five years due to its rapid economic growth, proving that the state can soon achieve the necessary level of growth and even help the rest of the nation thrive.
The Assam government is attempting to create a solid governance and administrative ecosystem. As a result, the officials are looking to create a strong administration from the district level in order to take advantage of the state's continuous expansion.
Chief Minister's Young Professional Program 2023
The Chief Minister's Young Professional Program (CMYPP) aims to provide district administration with short-term catalytic support to enhance programme implementation in the targeted sectors, such as health, education, women's empowerment, and child development.
As part of the Chief Minister's Young Professional Program, young professionals are being encouraged to support Assam's transformational process and make demonstrable improvements at the district level in the view of Sustainable Development Goals, he said.
The program will consist of 75 professionals in total. There will be two professionals placed in each of the 35 districts. Five professionals work at the state's administrative centre: one for the NHM, and one for the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Additionally, one professional will be placed for each of the departments of health, education, and women's and children's development. This cohort will be chosen through a competitive entry procedure.
Master's degrees in social science, social work, public policy, public health, public administration, law, economics, or management are required for admission to the CMYPP. IIM Bangalore will hold an entrance exam, a group discussion, and an interview for selection.
The program will assist the district administration in carrying out legislative directives for the general welfare of the people. IIM Bangalore will grant a certificate in public policy and management following the commencement of the two-year programme.
