IIM-Ahmedabad to Launch New Logo and Website; Campus Building Renovated

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has announced that some buildings on the old campus would be rebuilt. All buildings will go through this process to check for structural issues, deterioration, and the institution will make sure the buildings are not unsafe to occupy.

IIM Ahmedabad takes pride in its historical roots and rich heritage, which include the distinctive architecture and were all crucial to its development into a leading institution of international renown. The residents of the campus, however, are now concerned for their safety as a result of some of the buildings' structural degradation, deterioration, and uninhabitability over time.

IIT Roorkee structural and seismic engineers, as well as an international panel made up of restoration specialists, architects, and structural engineers, conducted surveys for this conclusion, according to IIM-A. According to the ruling, the institute won't proceed with any additional renovations to the faculty blocks, classroom complex, or other dorms than D15.

After receiving vehement objections from American architects Louis Kahn's (the original designer) children as well as other designers, historians, alumni, and architects, the institute was forced to withdraw an Expression of Interest (EoI) in December of last year.

Additionally, a request for proposals (RFP) process will be launched later for the reconstruction of the faculty blocks, classroom complex, and peripheral dorms 16 to 18 with the same exterior façade, a seismically safe structure, and non-major renovation of the internal space to improve its functionality to meet the needs of the users. In keeping with Louis Kahn's legacy and bearing in mind the practical requirements of both current and future campus inhabitants, the other dorms will be renovated.

IIM is also updating its logo at the same time. Vidya Viniyogadvikasa will still be inscribed in Sanskrit on the new logo (development through the distribution or application of knowledge). The "jali" artwork has also been updated with navy blue curves and lines that are distinct and strong. According to the institute, "the updated logo contains 'IIMA' as a single wordmark which is an acknowledgment of the unique character of the Indian Institute of Ahmedabad as an institute of national importance that is built on the link with this city since its beginning."
