IIM Ahmedabad Starts Fifth Edition of IIMA-SRK Lecture Series

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management, IIM Ahmedabad is set to start its fifth edition of IIMA-SRK lecture series after a three-year break due to the pandemic.

IIM Ahmedabad in a collaboration with Shree Ramkrishna Foundation (SRKF) will host the fifth edition of the IIMSRK lecture series.

The main goal of the event is to increase industry and academic cooperation in order to produce, develop, and disseminate knowledge in the field of education. Marianne Bertrand, a senior professor of economics at the University of Chicago, gave the first talk in the series on the topic of "Gender, Stereotypes and Inequality" at the IIMA campus.

The lecture started off with a general overview of work from a gender viewpoint, followed by discussions on prejudices and growing inequalities.

Bertrand went on to list economic, sociocultural, and cognitive aspects that affect women's employment. Other key topics of the lecture covered a variety of facets of gender inequality, including the pay gap, the underrepresentation of women in fields like STEM and top management, and the effect that having children has on their ability to earn.

Analysing the data, Bertrand added that these problems are complicated and require a multifaceted strategy to be developed that covers sociocultural, economic, and intellectual issues.

Kamlesh Yagnik, president of the SRK Foundation, and Nirav Mandir, chief human resources officer of Shree Ram Krishna Exports, along with IIMA staff and students, attended the IIMSRK Lecture.

Speaking during the event, Errol D'Souza, director of IIMA, expressed his gratitude towards the SRK group for partnering with the Institute to establish this lecture series and enabling IIMA to encourage conversations on topics of global relevance every year.

D’Souza said that the event is a special occasion for all of them at the Institute, because the institute is fortunate to have Professor Marianne Bertrand, an excellent economist, among themselves to talk about a topic that is currently very popular in India and other places across the world.
