IIM Ahmedabad Inaugurates JSW School of Public Policy

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has inaugurated JSW School of Public Policy (JSW SPP) building, a state-of-the-art multi-facility centre at IIMA’s new campus.

In collaboration with JSW Group, IIM Ahmedabad established the JSW School of Public Policy, to conduct public policy research, teach public policy, and support India's roadmap for economic growth and sustainable development.

IIMA has an admirable history of providing outstanding contributions to India's policymaking initiatives that have significantly influenced the nation's political landscape.

IIMA provided the JSW Group with the best foundation for the creation of a School of Public Policy because it provided internal expertise and capability through its highly skilled professors.

Since its establishment, the JSW SPP has worked to bring together policymakers and stakeholders from public, private, and social businesses to promote public policy conversations that would encourage idea sharing and actively contribute meaningfully to India’s policy reforms.

According to Professor Arindam Banerjee, Director-in-Charge of IIMA, the management institute has a rich tradition of producing extraordinary contributions to India's policy making arena that have actively altered the policy-scape of the country.

There has been a significant amount of research, instruction, and advisory work done, earning IIMA a reputation for providing creative, well-founded, and forward-looking contributions to bettering policy development and implementation.

The JSW School was designed to be a significant thing that could help create this national and state public policy framework. The school took its shape with generous assistance from the JSW Group.

The school took the lead in organising stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds to facilitate public policy conversations that would engage, influence, and meaningfully contribute to policy development even as the brick-and-mortar campus was under construction in recent years.

The main objective of JSW SPP is to become the information centre for such cutting-edge thinking and has the potential to become the hub of policy learning and diffusion, by creating case studies on the distinctive Indian policy experience.

The school, with its excellent infrastructure, aspires to host the top minds in a range of public policy-related fields. By doing this, it also aims to open up channels of communication and engagement between policy practitioners and policy intellectuals.

Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group said that India's route to becoming a US$ 10 trillion economy involves structural partnership from the governmental sector, private companies, as well as Academia. These partnerships are essential for developing the following stage of policy reforms and for effectively planning India's economic growth during the following ten years. Public policy is the backbone of society which is also connected to effective leadership.

Jindal added that there are a lot of benefits of public policy on society over the last few decades as well as some of its drawbacks. So, it is imperative to support Public Policy education in India so that there's a pool of knowledgeable public policy experts who can develop, execute, and assess policies that are effective, efficient, and fair.

In order to address this demand, the JSW School for Public Policy was founded on the IIM Ahmedabad campus. The goal is to establish a top-notch institution that will nurture a new generation of ethical, competent, and experienced public policy experts. The School will consult with subject-matter experts to determine what training is needed to fill knowledge gaps and institutionalise innovative concepts.

Further, Jindal said that they are optimistic that these concepts will enable the next generation to finally transform the influential research into cutting-edge inventions that produce effective policy solutions.
