IIIT Delhi establishes Center for Quantum Technologies

New Delhi: A new Center for Quantum Technologies has been established by the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT Delhi) (CQT).

The centre at IIIT Delhi will concentrate on leading the research and development of various aspects of quantum technologies, interact with businesses and government agencies for product development, encourage interdisciplinary research, work with other research labs in India and abroad, and provide students with the necessary skills to pursue a rewarding career in quantum technologies.

A BTech minor programme in quantum technologies will be offered by the centre and the department of electronics and communication engineering at IIIT Delhi starting in August 2022.

Sayak Bhattacharya is the current director of CQT, which includes nine faculty members from various fields. All facets of quantum technologies, including theory, the creation of innovative materials, circuits, secure communication networks, and lastly, their implementation, are areas of expertise for the associated faculty members.

The Center for Quantum Technologies at IIIT-Delhi will conduct multidisciplinary research and development in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum materials and devices, according to Professor Ranjan Bose, director of IIIT Delhi. It would aim to create "affordable solutions" with a focus on opportunities and needs unique to India. The advancement of quantum technologies in India will also be aided by the development of a trained workforce at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels.

In an email to IIIT Delhi, Professor Ravindra Pratap Singh from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) Ahmedabad congratulated the university and said that quantum technology, with its four verticals of quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and metrology, and quantum materials, is going to be revolutionary. It will alter the ways in which we calculate, communicate, and gauge time and distance. One must congratulate IIIT-Delhi for making the right decision at the right moment by establishing a Center of Quantum Technology to focus its efforts on this fascinating field of science and technology and to develop competent labour for the sector.
