IIIT Delhi & IBM Research Joined Forces To Offer Data Lifecycle Management Course

The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi in coordination with IBM Research has been introducing a course on 'Data Lifecycle Management' for computer science engineering students.

IIIT Delhi offers the course to pre-final and final year undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students.

The newly released course is to be taught by Dr. Sameep Mehta and Hima Patel from IBM Research. The course will include algorithms and best practices to handle data to construct excellent machine learning pipelines.

IIIT Delhi already has many data science courses, however, this newly launched course will solely focus on data management issues for the Artificial Intelligence pipeline. The main aim of the course is to help students understand the evolution of data research from Business intelligence to Artificial Intelligence to Hybrid Cloud.

IBM Research AI, Dr. Sameep Mehta who will be teaching the course said, "It is important for our next generation to understand the data lifecycle. In a typical AI project, around 80% of the effort is spent on data acquisition, cleaning and preparation, whereas model learning accounts for 20%. This course will majorly focus on teaching these concepts in a principled fashion."

Sections Involved in the Course
The course is bifurcated into 6 sections which cover-

  • AI Background Refresher
  • Framework for Operationalising Data for AI Tasks
  • Data Exploration
  • Data Quality Analysis for ML
  • Getting Data Ready for AI and How it all comes together in Practical Setting
  • Re-imagining Data in Hybrid Cloud Environments

A couple of guest lectures will also be featured to showcase how these principles are applied to build Large Scale Data Lakes, said IIIT Delhi in an official statement.
